hello guys i manage to unpack the game i reedit some textures like all main texture at "wp" , "act" , "wall" , "vine" , "trees" , "detail" , and "item" not everything its only the DDS extension using IrfanView software and plugins i manage to view them and reedit saved to JPG format and i rename the extensions to DDS i put them to STALKER C.O.P dictionary/ gamedata / Texture.. it works fine and it adds some huge fps boost but there was a bit problem here

The Problems:

takes 3x long before you enter to the main game afte rthe loading bar is full you still need to wait in 4-5 minutes before the "press anything to continue" or similar, going to option during the game by pressing "Esc" takes very long about 2-4minutes, saving the game using quick save also takes time 2-3 minutes,

so any help?

There's a DDS plugin you can get, and a free program that's like Photoshop. That's been known since SoC... But it doesn't seem to be very publicly easy to find. We don't even remember where we found it... Was on this forum somewhere, we think. Do a search on the forum, look through the SoC modding section...

Nevermind, we found it. XD All the info needed is here: Guide to Retexturing, Stalker Downloads, Stalker Utilities Contains links to everything needed, as well as being a guide on how to use them. :p

Yeah, but if we read your post correctly, then all you did was rename some .jpg files into .dds. The fact remains that .dds files have a LOT more information in them than a regular image file. They have data that the 3D model files read which tells them where to place the parts of the image file.

Simply put: .dds files are 3D image files. You can NOT just simply rename a .jpg file to .dds and expect it to work the same. This is why your STALKER game takes so long to load... Because that data the 3D models NEED isn't there.

We have modified the .dds files in Shadow of Chernobyl using that plugin and Photoshop (since we have that program, we didn't need the program the tutorial suggested) and no issues whatsoever. Load times are the same as they have always been for us. So do yourself a favor, and do it right... Because, so long as you keep doing it wrong, people are only going to tell you to do it the right way over and over again. ;x

Just try it and see if it doesn't work better. What's the worst that can happen? Seriously... Don't just outright ignore because you THINK you know what you're doing. From what we can tell, you're not that experienced on this. And your refusal to even TRY it only goes to further show your inexperience.

Yaaa... Because it's actually an nVidia file format, not just a simple, flat image format. XD It's like trying to edit an animated gif without a program that can read the animation data. :3 Except that this is a bit more complex. (Luckily that tutorial makes it actually very simple. :D )
