Someone should really consider, making it possible to get your money back from those bandits wen u go to retrieve gear... rlly what were tehy thinking, if u spent time in early levels doing side missions all of that just goes down the drain in that one scripted bullshit scene...
If they are quest NPCs and you can find them you may be able to attach a script line like dialogs.relocate_money(actor, amount, "in") however youd need to store the "amount" variable at the time that "cutscene" plays so you can get the exact same amount back.
Im fairly busy this whole week so i dont have much time to look into it but maybe next week if stuff frees up ill make a fix just for that section. It would be nice if trunks can be modded to store money but ive read in dialogs that they somehow use PDAs to transfer money so it all maybe digital and it wouldnt make sense storing it in a trunk but it maybe possible.
