As of now there is a problem with S:CS where with quad core (& some duo core) processors where it only utilizes 1 core. There is a manual fix I know of that has to be done every time you start up the game. This can be found here.

How many cores (CPU) does clear sky take advantage of? - Steam Users' Forums

I would imagine that this downloadable fix would do the same thing but permanently, rather than the manual fix where it has to be done every time you start it up.

In other words the mod will allow CS to make use of all four of my cores, and provide better and smoother gameplay. Is this correct?

That is exactly what it means, I was one of the cases where it was only using 1 of my 2 cores, I fixed it and I am getting on average 8-12 fps more. I have been using the manual fix, I figure the next patch will fix this anyway.

For me I got a nice 15 FPS gain from that fix. I was very angry that clear sky was running slower then it should have been on my 3 week old newly built computer that uses every new and popular part from newegg.com and I got that shitty performance.

If you know what you're doing absolutely get that fix.

OK a seem to have not been useing the Fix propley. Taken from the "ReadMe"

Insert File into the Clear Sky Directory and execute. It should launch Stalker - Clear Sky then wait 30 seconds and set the affinity on the xrEngine.exe process to use four cores instead of just one.

I under stand the bit about putting it into the CS directory but i dont really understand the rest, could someone explain this to me.

Once the game is running then press CTRL+ALT+DEL and open the Task Manager.

Under processes you will see xrEngine.exe Right-click on this Select "Affinity" from the menu

From this point follow the instructions about assigning cores. Do not, at any point, deselect ALL cores, you must leave at least 1 (usually the 1st) assigned to xrEngine.exe at all times.

Most importantly: If you still aren't sure - DON'T DO IT! (Or at least if it goes wrong then hard reset your PC straight away so the settings don't become permanent).

Basically what you have to do is alt-tab out of the game after 30 seconds. (I think you have to actually have the engine working so when I say in game I mean actually playing not just the menu.) Then ctrl+alt+delete and go the the process tab. Then right-click on the xrengine.exe and select all the cores to activate them.

Basically the only difference between that fix and the manual fix is: with the manual fix you deselect all your cores except the first one, then press ok. Then go back to the same menu and reselect all your cores and press ok. Then you are good to go.

Note: This has to be done every time you start the game and from the sounds of it even with the downloadable fix.
