I just cant understand how to get these to work. Any mod I've tried that allows me to carry more by default makes me CTD whenever I try to start a new game, or zone into a new area using a saved game. These have to do with what require editing, the actor.ltx & the system.ltx. Weight mod edits also add in their own fsgame.ltx, but I dont think its necessary since I cant see the difference between theirs & mine, so I just stick with mine. Besides, mine's true / true, and modded ones are often false / true, and I dont even know why.

As for the other two files however, I can't figure out not only what the fatal confliction is, I dont even know which file is the cause, or if its both of them. I see other people working with these just fine, and I see others with the same issue as myself. Can anyone help?

Ok ill explain in a few steps.

1. Do not use their fsgame.ltx, whoever included the file is an idiot because it lists the location of your saved games and it cant find it because the guy who made the mod may have a different drive letter, etc. The $app_data_root$ will vary from user to user. That is most likely the number one reason for your CTD.

2. If you only want to increase the weight limit its 2 simple lines in the 2 files you mentioned.

i. Open system.ltx in the \gamedata\configs\ folder and search for the line max_weight. This is your normal limit not including the red overweight value. Edit it to a value that is 10kg less then what you want the absolute limit to be.

ii. Open actor.ltx in the \gamedata\configs\creatures\ folder and search for the line max_walk_weight this is the limit at which you stop walking and it tells you you're overweighted. Its generally 10kg more then what you can "normally" carry so if you set max_weight at 60 then the max_walk_weight should be 70. But you can edit it as you please.

Hope it helps, lastly the only other explanation is that you installed something at the same time as the carry mod or you've installed conflicting mods and that is whats screwing you up.

One piece of clarification. In system.ltx, you have to alter your max_weight. In actor.ltx, you have to alter both your max_weight & your max_walk_weight. The max_weight value should be right at the top of the file, while max_walk_weight is way down in with the [actor condition] section. In (2) files, there are a total of (3) values that need to change. If you change all three, and make sure that max_walk_weight is higher than max_weight, then you should be fine. I think that Supernatur4l was trying to make that point...but I just want to make sure you're clear about what you have to change so you don't get crashes anymore. Supernatur4L is right about the fsgame.ltx file - not only will messing with that file not alter your weight limit, but it could be screwing up other variable that might be causing crashes. The only time I've seen anyone mess around with the fsgame.ltx file was when they were making some graphical tweaks.

You're right about the values, thanks for correcting me, it was late and i just got back from a very long weekend. I knew that there was a value in system and actor that was identical but forgot it.

It's all good - I had your back. :D I knew what you were talking about - but I was trying to cut a hissy fit off at the pass before it happened.

Ok my russian clear sky game got screwed up my the amk sleeping bag so i went out and bought the US version today and im modding my weight back and it appears that the value max_weight value in actor.ltx you list dosent actually exist.

actor.ltx contains max_item_mass and max_walk_weight system.ltx contains max_weight

As far as i can tell max_item_mass and max_weight should match and max_walk_weight should be 10kg more to create the overweight limit.

Im going to test it out a little maybe max_item_mass has to match max_walk_weight as it would be the very limit.

:) its good to know that someones got my back hehehe

Ahh, it all works now, thanks.

Of course, I found a working mod of it and quickly caught on to the same thing when I noticed that this one didn't include their own fsgame.ltx.

Still, I'll give ya guys credit for saying it first.

Thats ok i was so tired my memory omitted the value completely :p I go off memory alot so thats why people need to correct me now and again, i appreciate it. :nodding:

Btw, do you know for sure what each value does? Ive edited max_item_mass and max_weight but now ive upgraded my suit to have +5 extra kg but the value didnt change, so im thinking that one of the values is purely graphical. Any help on this?

YES...this is one of the few things I understand well enough to explain!! :D Referencing your message:

actor.ltx contains max_item_mass and max_walk_weight system.ltx contains max_weight

max_weight & max_item_mass are the EXACT SAME THING. They define the maximum amount that your STALKER can carry. These values have to be the same to make sure that the game doesn't crash. Please note that when you reach your maximum weight, you can still move normally - although you will fatigue faster the more you're carrying. I generally set both of these values at 350 - because I'm a greedy bastard like that, and because it's nothing to be carrying over 100 kg in basic equipment if you hoard ammunition, medical supplies, and food like I do. Plus...I'm not fond of stashing stuff & coming back to it later. That usually turns into a major pain in the butt & triggers alot of pointless sidequests (save the stalkers from rabid dogs - stuff like that) that slow down the game. max_walk_weight is a little different. This value must be HIGHER than the other two. This is the limit at which your stalker is physically incapable of moving anymore. It doesn't have to be 10 higher - it can be any number. I generally set this value at 400 - because it's a nice round number. Essentially...your STALKER is a pretty tough guy & also very greedy. So even when he has reached his limit, he has enough will power to carry just a bit more. Evidently years of looting corpses & carry hundreds of rifles on his back into battle has tempered his muscles into steel springs. What I would also like to point out is that there is no limit to how much you can HOLD on your character - you just can't move after you load him up beyond his max_walk_weight. There are a few other weight variables. One of them is called "max_ruck". I have NO IDEA WHAT THIS VARIABLE DOES. It's defaulted to 65, but you can set the other weight variables above 65 & it doesn't hurt anything. My advice is to completely skip this one & pretend it's not there. :Puzzled:
