I want to make a kind of weapon/ammo mod/reskin/remodel for a bit more realism.

My idea is to replace the individual bullets with magazines for the weapons. So instead of buying boxes of bullets from the traders you will buy magazines. Your inventory would say that you have 3 pistol clips for instance instead of 30 bullets. And when you find ammo on the floor it will be in the form of a magazine instead of a box of bullets.

The obvious exception is shotgun shells and possibly sniper ammo.

The problem is we would have to create new items so that the same ammo type is divided up into different magazines. I.e. an m16 magazine cant be used in the g36 even though its the same bullet. Although (if we want to be technical) the m16 magazine would fit the L85. And so on...

If anyone is interested I would need help making the mod. I think it would add a cool bit of realism to the ammo in the game.

I haven't made a mod for stalker before but I can learn to edit it. I can also take care of the 3d modeling side of things, making the new inventory graphics and writing item descriptions.

If you're interested or think its a good idea let me know!

It is a nice idea unfortunatelly i dont think its possible just because of the way the game counts the ammo.

If someone could script it to say divide the number of bullets by max clip amount and always round UP to the nearest whole number it may work but i dont think the game will like it.

I think Supernatur4l is right. but you could make an new model for the magazine and use it instead of the boxes. Its a good Idea and would give the game more atmosphere (you know what word I mean). But unfortunately I cant model so I cant help you with that

Yeah that would be the difficulty. Even if we could somehow decimalize the clip amounts so it says "you have 2.5 mags left" then that would be quite good.

Like supern4tural said the ammo counter would have to display the sum of (bullets divided by magazine size) and I'm not sure if the stalker engine would display sums as numbers. There must be a way to do it :P

THIS IS ACTULY A AWSOME IDEAL System16! - No really think about it, I go back to the sega master / nitendo days after Atri...in some of there games requiering ammo including some DOS games for 3.1 windows Like termanator future schock ( yeah I still have, need to find something to run win95 so I can play it ) they would have for exsample a pic of a clip standing up and one laying down close to it with bulits loaded in them and maybe 2 or 3 loose laying next to them... now Graphics tech has long way change compair to the graphics in the past.. so a simuler pic can actully hold a better detail sceam, maybe you can do something simuler except maybe place the box of the ammo behind it with the clips like I said in front, or one clip next to one box, and if it is a chain belt some of the chain hanging out of the box, or 12 gage rounds have a few lying out next to the box, and I mean the entire shell, not the projectile part, like shot is enclosed, but slugs can be seen from the top caused its packed, not closed... just a little Ideal to think about....

No no the game can display the correct amount of ammo in the UI ammo box, the number will still keep track of the exact ammo but will pass the value thru a formula before it attaches a quantity number to an item. It is also not difficult to make it round up to the nearest whole number. But it also just hit me that someone would have to model the magazines so that they dont appear as boxes.

Oh if it can pass through a formula then that would work great.

And like I said I'd be happy to remodel all the 3d ammo as magazines instead of boxes and redraw the inventory item art.

Btw, anyone know what format 3d files the stalker engine will accept?

Yeah that is the kind of thing I had in mind for the inventory images and the ammo display image. With the models of the magazines you find on the floor you will hopefully be able to see one bullet in the top of the clip as well.

Question: Clear Skies allows you to alter the magazine size of your weapons. Currently....the boxes of ammunition don't care what your clip size is, but if you're talking about changing the way ammunition is handled, how would you account for this? Other than that...I like the idea alot. It will take alot of work to implement, because you have to make the change global & make sure that every instance of ammunition in the game correctly references your new clips. Otherwise you'll end up with boxes of ammo you can't use...or clips that do nothing. If you pull it off...I'll join everone in giving you props for a job well done! That's a much deeper game modification than I would try to do myself. Best of luck!
