I finally finished my mod last night and gave several guns a test run. And I think I ran into what may be a massive issue with having both trees open at once. Now, this doesn't effect Shotguns, the VAL/VSS rifles, Dragunovs or the PKM, because their trees are completely open, therefore all their upgrades stack. However, the MP5, Handguns, and all other assault rifles seem to only work with one tree's upgrades. And that tree will be whichever you upgraded from last. Here's an example. I noticed several issues while taking a new gun and taking up the upgrade options one by one, such as the gun acting differently between upgrades, but not in the fashion I was hoping. Finally, I filled up both trees to the two last options. I took the accuracy option to finish the Precision tree. The gun's accuracy was sharp as expected, but the fire rate wasn't what it should have been, and recoil quickly built up. Then I took the last option to finish the Assault tree. RPM was high and recoil was much better, but the sharp accuracy was gone and muzzle velocity was down. It didn't take me long to figure it out - It would seem the tree restriction runs deeper than the icons and upgrade config files. Each gun you upgrade that makes you choose between trees can only handle one tree at a time. If you have an open tree, go partway down the Precision tree, decide halfway through that this isnt for you, and start down the Assault tree, the gun discards just about everything the other tree altered up to that point. If you decide not to waste the changes and go back to the Precision tree while you still can, another upgrade into it brings back the Precision effects, while of course discarding anything from Assault. This stays true to the very end. With an open tree, finishing an endline means leaving the other open endline alone, or else you totally swap trees. This puts a hamper on my mod because the major unique upgrade I put on each gun was only put on one of these trees in most cases, and not always on the same endline slot. Therefore people who might download it would find some of their guns upgraded with the new effect, and others not, but they would have the option of upgrading the other tree to achieve it. However, these unique upgrades were to be the final, most expensive upgrade per gun, originally intended to be gotten only after both trees were upgraded. Since upgrading both trees is no longer productive, I'm going to have to alter the final upgrades to carry the properties of BOTH trees in a single upgrade. On a later release, I'll probably just put the final upgrades on both endlines of the trees to help avoid further confusion.
