ok i got clear sky and had no trouble with the game untill i got to Limansk and started getting ctd's nothing too bad at first just one or 2 here and there, but the farther i got in Limansk the more ctd's i got (up to about 1 every few min) so i figured there was a patch out to fix it(yes i hadent patched yet cuz i hadnt had any problems up untill then) so first i look to get a patch thou steam, which is where i got the game from. and they had nothing, so i looked for GSC's websight and what not to find the patch and couldnt find anything (its prolly there and i just didnt see it or something) but when i started hunting the forums for something i found it, i got a link to the offical patch and dl'ed it, when i tryed to run it i got an error.

"The update program couldn't find the game.

The update is impossible without the game installed."

this is the forum i found the link to the patch at

GSC Game World - Official Site

i downloaded the patch for the downloaded version of the game. any suggestions? do i have the wrong patch? if so where can i get the correct one?

Hey Keennan, I found the patch here : Clear Sky Patch, Stalker Downloads, Stalker Patches

I have not tried it without addons and what not, but heard it is pretty good considering the fact. Hope this helps. :)

Remember that your old saved games won't work with the new patch! I've had the same problem and it was caused by a corrupted save game. I just had to load an older save and re-play some parts and it didn't crash anymore.

ya i know that, i dont mind starting over.... as long as it stops crashing :P and about older saves i dont really have any older saves, when i play i use quick saves to keep form losing to much when i die and i just save over the normal save that i have so it dosnt get to cluttered.

You can't patch the Steam version with any of the normal GSC patches. You can only get the patches from Steam. But again, although it may fix your crashing problems. You will have to start a new game all over again. You might as well wait for the new patch 1.5.05, coming this week. Let's hope it's THIS week anyways. When using Steam, you don't install patches as you would with a retail game. Bring up Steam, go to view, click My Games List. Then right click on the icon for Clear Sky and go to properties. There should be something in there for "Keep my game up-to-date". Turning this on should auto-download the latest patch for the game. *Don't forget to turn this off if you get a good going and don't want the later patch in the future. Again it's the reason I jumped on here and some other forums and advised people not to buy through Steam. I like them for certain things, but not for NON-Valve games. Or at least games that have alot of MOD potential like these do. For one Steam only allows a limited # of Clear Sky installs before you must pay again. Plus it seems to be harder to get mods to work with Steam versions. All this plus the patching issue. Steams patch won't come until after GSC's has been out for some time. This is why it's best to just buy the retail version. Unless it's a classic game like the ID games or something Half-Life related, then hey, no harm there.

Post up the crashlog, I'm sure there's a 3rd party fix already out.

ok bad, i checked steam, it was already set to update automatically, but in the update history there is nothing, does that mean when i fist got it it was fully updated or that steam doesn't have the patch yet?

if the problem was a corrupted save, how can i prevent that from happening again?

The corrupt saved games is just a problem with the game itself. The latest patch has fixed this. At least I and others seem to think so. I played fine on 1.0 of the game, until a crash to desktop, which almost always corrupted a save. Once patch 1.5.03 & 1.5.04 released, I have yet to see this issue anymore. As far as Steam updates go, not sure what to tell ya. Try turning off updates for Clear Sky. Then apply that. Then turn it back on and apply. Hopefully it'll trigger Steam to update Clear Sky. I havn't heard too much good or bad feedback about Steam though so I'm not 100% that Steam even has an update for Clear Sky just yet.
