i had played STALKER CS through several levels. i had installed several mods plus did some tweaking myself and eventually the game became unstable. i uninstalled and reinstalled it. no other changes to hardware or drivers were done. now, when i start the game i get the opening screen and then an error message saying my hardware doesn't meet minimum game requirements and says it's Pixel Shade 1.1 or words to that effect. as i said, i had already had it installed AND running, now it won't. can anybody offer any help? thanks in advance. :D
This error has been experienced by other people. Did you delete the stcs file with the user.ltx in it when you reinstalled. If not delete it and try again. Maybe move your saves to another folder so you can use them again. They are in the stcs folder also. GSC Game World - Community If this doesn't work head over the gsc clear sky forum. And then use the search function in the clear sky forum to find the answer. Other people have fixed this problem. GSC Game World - Community

Thanks! I will try to sort it out and post back on the results.
I found the stcs user file and moved it to my slave drive rather than deleting it. I started the game but I had no response to any keystrokes to skip the various splash screens. usually I can hit Enter and it skips them. when the STALKER menu screen came up I looked under load games and my saves were still all there. I selected the last save and it loaded normally. Once it was done I couldn't do anything to move, change weapons, check inventory, etc. No keys worked at all, but my mouse would let me look around. I couldn't return to the menu screen by pressing esc. I had to hit ctrl-alt-del to bring up task manager and then alt-tab to it to close STALKER. I shot over to GSC and while I found lots of pixel shader errors I didn't find anything (yet) that was similar to what I had, a reinstall and then the game wouldn't load and the pixel shader error coming up. All of what I saw related to cranked up settings in the game generating the error. BTW: I also noticed another file that was user sohc or something like that. I left it alone.
Heres a copy of my user.ltx. Try starting a brand new game with it and see what happens. Don't even load a saved game or it light change the user.ltx. Make sure you keep you old user.ltx somewhere.
The shoc user.ltx is for shadow of chernobyl. Even if you uninstall your gamne the folders stay there. So if you want to try to reinstall a fresh copy of the game you have to manually delete the stcs folder for a clear sky reinstall and shoc for reinstalling shadow of chernobyl. You also have to delete the deepsilver or thq folder depending on which one you are trying to reinstall fresh. This solution was posted by: Ahlgreenz on the gsc forum. I copied it because my links never seem to work. GSC Game World - Community Solution! Yep, that's right - I have found a solution. It's been a while since I played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky last time, so I decided to download it through Steam again. When it was done downloading, I ran the game and changed the lightin settings to "enhanced full dynamic". Then I restartet the game inorder to make the changes work, but then the error showed up, that one about my graphics card doesn't have pixel shader 1.1 . I knew this couldn't be right, because my graphics card support pixel shader 3.0, so I decided to find a solution on the internet, which I didn't. Then I decided to see if I could do something about it my self, and to my amaze, I could! Here's what to do, a little tweaking with a file, and it should work - it did for me: Go to wherever you have S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky installed (in my case, it's C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\stalker clear sky) and right-click on the file named "fsgame", then click "open with" to select what program you want to open it with, and then selecet notepad. Then some text should show up, and now you should find the line $game_shaders$. In that line you see this: $game_shaders$ = true| true| $game_data$| shaders\ now, first of all, make a back-up copy, just copy it to your desktop. Then, change the two "true" to "false" (without " ofcourse) so it looks like this: $game_shaders$ = false| false| $game_data$| shaders\ That's it, it should work - it did for me. Hi! Well, here's what I did. As I said in my previous post, I found the stcs user file (it was in the My Documents folder for those who had trouble locating it). I didn't want to delete it outright so I cut it and pasted it to my slave drive. Then when I restarted Clear Sky, it loaded and ran as I described with no keyboard control at all, but I could look around with the mouse. So I recopied the stcs user file back into My Documents from the slave. I tried restarting the game and to my surprise, the game launched! When I got to the game's menu screen I looked under options at the keyboard settings and all the key bindings were blanked out. I tried manually entering the keys one at a time, but it wouldn't accept them. I clicked on the "Restore Defaults" button and all were restored! I made my changes, saved them, and the now game runs fine. I didn't lose any previous saves. I have no explanation why it works now and wouldn't even load much past the splash screen on the dozen or so times I tried to restart it before. All I know is that it works again and I am a happy gamer guy! Thank you all for your help! I have bookmarked this page to save it for future reference. You are good people!
