Hey, thought all you S.T.A.L.K.E.R. peeps might enjoy the linked article and pics of the Chernobyl site (if you haven't already read/seen it). I looked pretty close, but I didn't see any bloodsuckers lurking in the corners...........though they can be pretty stealthy! I think the Devs nailed the appearance and flavor of some of the game's interior locations quite well! Chernobyl. 21 years later... / Environment / Science ReaDigg.COM
wow nice pix some locs there and ingame are dead on. it is sad seeing a real dead city like that...
I thought there was never a actual nuclear explosion at Chernobyl? Why was everything so destroyed, it looks like there was a series of hurricanes that blew through that place?, like the picture of the helicopters that are just ruined, how did they get so damaged?
Awsome pictures. They really did capture the feel of the place in the game didn't they. I believe the helicopters were stripped and abandoned. There used to be a PBS documentary showing the actual clean up. They brought troops in with helicoptors to take turns at running in for a few minutes doing clean up and then getting back out. The next guy would go in and continue what the privious guy started and on and on.
woah~ that rust stain on the window pic... looked like rotten and stained blood for years.... the nursery its chair is stacked on top..... i wonder wat actually happens at night.... in pripyat when ther are no soldiers or camera men
Wow. If STALKER 2 would use the CryEngine2 this would look photo realistic.

When the explosion happened the military and firefighters used the helicopters to drop chemicals on the destroyed reactor to try and clean up the radiation. However this was a bad move. Flying anywhere near or over the destroyed reactor meant that they were also flying through an invisible wall of radiation. The majority of the people who piloted or were on board one of these helicopters would die due to radiation poisoning. The helicopters and military vehicles were so irradiated that they had to dump most of them. That is why they are stripped and dumped in the photo. That’s also what the “garbage” is in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

This one the taken the day after the explosion I believe: YouTube - Chernobyl disaster: First aerial video
it is surprising how mutch devistation is still there and how real the game potraed the area (minus the mutents and anomalys of course) i never realied it was so bad i love history so i have heard the storie of HOW chernobyl happed but not the after effects. its also bad becouse now people fear nucular power when used and regulated correctly it can be one of the safest "cleanest" forms of electrisity (cleanest is in quotes becouse CO2 is NOT a green house gas but halp to creat air (basic photo synithisis)) oh well im getting off topic ageain oh well but yeah nice pics
if im not wrong... CO2 is not a green house gas but too much of it still causes global warming and stuff??
