Hey there guys,

Well, I saw a copy of the game in a local shop today, but forgot I didnt have my wallet, what a fool I looked at the register.

Anyways, moving on. How are we all enjoying the game? And what's this talk on bugs and such? Did that patch fix things up?

If I do end up buying the game, what can I expect? It's kind of a show off between S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and CNC3.

Go for CnC 3 if you prefer storyline and substance over hype. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. just seems a bit underdone, with some slight to severe bugs. Don't expect a clever RPG, expect a non-linear tactical on-your-own shoot 'em up.

My experience of the CnC 3 demo actually makes me wish I'd waited for that instead of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Of course, there are mods coming out for the game, so I'd hold your breath, keep watch on both games for something worthwhile.

It`s a mix of Oblivion and HL2,spiced with a bit of Doom3. Be prepared to lower quality settings or upgrade if your box is not fairly up to date, though.

Ive been playing the CNC3 Demo.. but I really get the feeling it is more like Generals and Zero Hour than the days of Red Alert 3. Just Deja Vu of Generals with prettier graphics and effects.

Sure, it has the great cinematic scenes, but, they dont do all that much for me. It all comes down to gameplay.

Oblivion had potential to be a great game, but Beth stuffed it up. That game needs a serious life overhaul and about another 10 layers of depth. HL2? Awesome. And Doom 3, excellent.

With CNC3 I get awesome load times, and I can run it on max details. But my headphones refuse to play sound during the cinematic campaign sequences, kind of frustrating. :uhm:

And I took part in the MP Beta for Stalker, found it good, I could run it on medium - high settings 1024x 768, which looked good enough for my eyes.

But just checking, what performance would you expect with a

7900GS 256mb video card, 1GB of Ram, and an AMD 64bit 3800+ CPU?

It depends on the resolution. I REALLY hate it when people list their rig, leaving out the monitor, then going "I get 40 FPS, LAWL."

If you're not running at a huge res (like 1920*1200), you should probably be ok.

Yea, I feel the same way, sorry for letting that slip.

Well I run an LCD monitor, usually with 1280 x1024, but am happy to lower to 1024 x768 if needed.

But thanks mate, it'll be interesting once I pick it up.

And how are things with bugs and such? stability wise?

If your running Windows XP you shouldn't experiance many if any bugs at all. I've been playing the game on XP SP2 and haven't had any bugs or problems what-so-ever with the game. If your running a Vista machine though.....wait a bit for a Vista patch to come out. Since S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't fully compatible with it yet.

A crash here and there and one restart due to an artifacting graphics card.

If your running xp, there aren't a lot of bugs like somebody said. For example, I only crashed once the whole game. There's also a rain bug, but it only occurs if you change the settings and don't restart.

The atmosphere is great, the weapons are good, but the storyline is bad and short. You can finish it in about 12 hours doing a lot of sidequests and a little exploring. The game doesn't have much replayability unless your the type of person who likes running around the zone doing nothing. There's not much to do. Sidequests get repetitive and boring very fast, unlike Gothic3 or Oblivion.

Multiplayer isn't that great. Artifact hunt is a waste, so the only good thing is TDM or DM. However, I played about 4 times, and out of 4 maps, only 1 was enjoyable. The other 3 were running around like an idiot shooting......... And maybe it was my connection at the time, or the server, but there was a wierd net lag. Getting delays when you shoot, etc.

If I were you, I would go for C&C3.

If you do get Stalker, I expect you to like it a lot for about 10 hours. Since at first, you'll be amazed. But then you realize there's not much to it, most of the enemies are bandits.........so meh.

I liked Stalker more than HL2, but not as much as Oblivion, probably because I prefer RPGs to shooters. As others have said, it's a nice mixture of genres, so if you're tired of the typical shooter this might be the game for you, but don't expect a great RPG or very good horror-game like Resident Evil.

The atmosphere of this game is much better than in many other games because of the nice graphics, weather-effects, foreign langauges, anomalies and all those rusty radioactive garbage.
