stalker-portal.ru led an interview with Senior PR Manager Oleg Yavorsky (GSC), providing him with questions of the community which he had to answer. The questions concern mini-games, the functionionality of the so called „Smart Terrain System“, the Blowout, updates on the development status and the in-game music.
Q1: Will there be any mini-games in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? Like Tetris for instance Smile. A: We do plan to put in some side-games for fun, but their themes will be related to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. So there won't be Tetris specifically, but it will be fun nonetheless. Smile
Q2: It would be interesting to find out more about the "Smart Terrain System" mentioned in the “Final Countdown” (Oblivion-Lost.com’s note: A S.T.A.L.K.E.R. campaign by Russian print Igromania.). A: “Smart Terrain” is a method that we apply to help NPCs and the A.I. to orientate itself on our huge levels. With this system characters know where they are located on the level, where it is best to hide, rest, where to run in case of danger etc. Thanks to “Smart Terrain” any character of the game can roam and find the optimal place to live on any level without losing orientation.
Q3: In the official F.A.Q. it is said that a “Blowout” is the period of time when the Zone changes. How does it change? A: A Blowout occures randomly once an in-game week. After each Blowout the entire territory of the Zone is covered with new anomalies arround which artifacts are generated. Therefore, the player can gather artefacts on previously explored territories, which did not contain any before. However, during a Blowout it is higly recommended not to go outside, but to find a safe location in order to be protected against dangerous energetic waves of the Blowout.
Q4: It is known that the territory of the Zone covers more than 30 square kilometres and represents somewhat of a long rectangle consisting of 18 locations. (Oblivion-Lost.com’s note: In fact, the Zone has an irregular shape, not a rectangular one.) How many of the 18 locations are ready today? A: All of the locations are ready. At the moment the team is focusing entirely on perfecting the gameplay.
Q5: Will there be changes in the musical themes at the moments of hostile attacks and will there be specific musical themes for specific locations? We doubt that there will be changes in theme, but there will be special music for specific locations.
Q6: Have you changed your minds about realising the multiplayer mode "Humans VS Mutants"? A: In the first version of the game there will only be Death Match, Team Death Match and Capture the Artefact.
Q7: Will we be able to customise our avatar by choosing his name etc. in the beginning of the game like in Sims 2? No, when you start off, your destiny has already been prepared by us in advance. Smile

well, the maps are DONE...gameplay (aka AI) is what they are working on now....but we have know some of that for a while.....
omg ive never heard of those "blowouts" or Smart terraint. God that sounds freaking sweet! To bad he didnt ask a question about the release date :(. But man i want S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so bad after reading that!

its not much we already diddnt know, i think only 2 or 3 of those questions were usefull. something else to add to the backboard then. thanks stalker.
Yeah those questions were nice. Exciting too. That smart terrain sounds nice. And the fact that the maps are all done is cool too.
Very good questions, I was glad that there was some new news.
I want to send off a question asking: "In percent, how much of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is done? This includes multiplayer and singleplayer as a whole."
but, do you think they will answer that question??? They were send a whole bunch of questions, and these are the ones Oleg decided to answer, saving the more juicy ones for this "special event" perhaps??

Yes, but i'd also never heard of "blowouts" or "smart terrain". At least we know they are still alive, and still working on the game. This pleases me.
