Did you make it past the monolith? If not, go past that. You don't even have to see the monolith. That's not the true ending. If you already did go past that, then read on.

Spoiler below..........

If you made it to the end, past the monolith, and talked to the dude floating in the air, he tells you that they made a mistake. Turns out you are Strelok but you got to close to the brain scorcher and they took control of your mind. The mistake was that they programmed Strelok to kill Strelok. You are Strelok. Being Strelok had amnesia and his brain was fried , he didn't know who he was. So the whole time he was looking for himself as it turns out. This means that Ghost, and the other dude Veselik {something like that} whos body you found by the helicopter in dark Valley were both helping you before your brain got fried. Seems you were all once on a quest to get to the center of the zone and find out the truth about the monolith and the secrets of the zone. That's what I got out of it anyway. Hope this makes the game better for you.

You can find out about Strelok well before that by just visiting Doc after you talk to Guide. There's also a way to get into the Secret Lab and extended ending even if you forget to see them and don't have the decoder.

I made it to that door once and realized I had forgotten to stop by the hotel and pick up the decoder. Just out of curiosity, how do you get through the door without the decoder?

I've heard about a trick with the Gauss Rifle, you you have to get as near to the door as possible and aim at the little opening between the door and the wall and then drop the Gauss Rifle, it somehow should clip into that little crack and the door should then open. Dunno if it woks though.

Thanks for the help :D Just wish I could play Multiplayer, I have a BT-Homehub and that stops you connecting to servers. Hopefully the next patch may sort out some of the Multiplayer problems! Thanks again Smoka.

Yeah, you use the Gauss rifle to open the Secret Decoder door, I learned it by watching a video a guy did. It's not as easy as you might think though, and make sure you save before trying it as the gun does clip through the door sometimes. The technique I found to work the best is to aim the rifle at a 45 degree angle toward the door and slightly downward just above it's lower hinge pin, then drop. Aim means via the scope btw, not crosshairs. The physics of the doors is crazy. I experimented with one of the doors in the underground area of the Brain Scorcher right after remembering I'd forgotten to see Doc. I was able to completely pop one of the doors off using just an assault rifle! There was nothing but a rock wall behind it. Though it appeared to be the same type of door as the Secret Decoder one in NPP, you do need the Gauss rifle for that one. It's the only gun heavy enough to hold the door open once you jam it in. I believe the reason for this is some doors are just for looks and have no physics to open and pivot on their hinges. Others that have these physics have to be opened, then held open, which is quite different.

i managed to reopen the door in labx18 after the fire elemental blocked it just using an ak74 with scope fitted, hasn't worked anywhere else so far though. lol, not really impressed with the gauss rifle, have christian slaters attitude to weaponry "i want a gun that holds a lot of bullets and fires really fast"!!! :D
