I didn't make it!

Just picked up this game. Installed, patched to the latest, play's flawlessly, so far which isn't far at all. Just left the start building and roamed the country side for ten minutes, (Some work issues came up and I was interrupted).

Ok so the next time I get a chance to play, I decide to browse online a bit for some tips on gameplay. That's when I discovered quite a few problems related to this game. Such as people experiencing random deaths, broken quests, rules that are unwritten (Such as doing quests in a specific order or it nullifies story line aspects), and on and on. The lists just kept going, and going.

I'm wondering if any veterans of this game series have recommendations in regards to mods or unofficial patchs that might alleviate most of these problems? I've encountered a few, but don't want to attempt any that might drastically alter the intention of the original.

So what would you recommend?

Personally, I'd suggest playing the game as is, bugs and all. When you start playing mods, you'll appreaciate them a whole lot more if you know what the game is like without them.

As for sugestions; Oblivion Lost, as Camo mentioned. Priboi Story, for when you're bored with Marked One's storyline that other mods leave in. And (if your rig can handle it) Stalker Complete 2009, which is basically the standard game, with graphics enhancements and bug fixes.

Also, if like me you like a bit of chaos, ABC Inferno is another one to try. The base mod is pretty old now, but Lee28 has released an addon pack for it over on the GSC forum.

The story has multiple endings so no matter what you do you will not get the entire story on one play through. You might even miss a part of the game in a sense. Maybe look that up later if you want but big spoilers in doing so. The patched game works well and I have had no game ending errors during many play throughs. After one play through I would also say play oblivion lost 2.2 for patch 1.0005. Then go from there. There are many big mods.

Stalker Complete 2009 is the mod I have been playing lately. I can actually play all the way through without one crash. It is almost exactly like the vanilla but has things like the tool kit, sleeping bag, and few modified weapons. The game line is exactly the same as vanilla tho. And of course great graphics and weather.

OL 2.2 is a great mod if ya want a change, with drivable vehicles (watch out for anomilies) and lots more creatures, as well as random blowouts, etc. It is a lot more challenging than the vanilla version,
