Hey. I've recently had some problems with NPCs aiming at what seems to be nothing in my new STALKER game. I'm running the latest Basix mod on 1.0004.

In the initial camp in Cordon, after the initial kill the carpark bandits mission I noticed that all of Wolf and his men were huddled in the corner facing the army outpost down the road. This makes talking to any of them impossible and looks quite weird with them all poking their guns through the fence.

Practically though, this wasn't much of an issue. What was a problem was Fox and his 'wall aiming'. I got to him via the boring 'dodge the guards at the railroad junction by going over it' and he was aiming at the wall of his crappy hidout, facing in the direction of this army outpost at the railroad.

I thought to myself, perhaps there is a bug in the AI which is making him aim at them. So, I went down and picked off the 6 or so guards quite easily. I return and, what do you know? he's still aiming there. I then noticed some bandits in the distance in the opposite direction and helped out a little bandit vs loner skirmish. A couple of shots were fired in Fox's direction, at which he retaliated, but he then returned to the safety of his wall. I then decided to stand in the way of his gun and, after 10 seconds, he finally put it away and I was able to talk to him. Maybe this is a viable method of getting around this problem but it's still a considerable error and, if not fixed, could fuck up things majorly later on.

Hi..

Happens all the time : npc is aiming at an ennemy far away (other npc, bandit, soldier, wild animal..) You may try to correct that by replacing m_staker.ltx, m_bandit.ltx and m_army.ltx by the original file, though it is better to modify those files only for view distance and threshold. Beware I can not guarantee results..

Is this error common with just mods or the original version of the game too? I'm not sure exactly how you would replace those files with the original file considering all of the mod files are just in the GameData folder so nothing old is overwritten.

its natural stalker..mod or not..it is a bug..some mods tweak the files sometimes bots will freak and run panic more then normal..best can be hoped for is a balance..but seems bots can not see you like they can other bots or monsters so thats good..you can creep up on bots..um.. bots can react different to different things too..other bots with guns. you more see the bots with or near you at attention and aiming its gun etc..if say a sucker or snork is in the area the bot near you might be running around acting odd go to crouch aiming then up moving around..either way.i use it as early warning..i know something is going to pop up and i know the general location even if not showing on my hud so.. note: bots can see through walls what ever and several blocks away at that..so.. see ya..

Hi again..

Never had this problem with vanilla game and 1.0003 patch. Started when I tried some mods. Didn't tried with 1.0004 patch.

.. and original files are in gamedata.dbx files. Files are extracted on-the-fly when needed. There's already a tutorial or at least a thread on how to extract all files to a temp folder. By just removing the 3 files I mentionned (deleting or moving to another folder), the game will use the original (embedded) ones.
