Trying to get through the locked door -- looks like I forgot the decoder in the Hotel in Pripyat -- I have the documents fro nthe stash but no decoder -- is there a way to back track to Pripyat -- I can't find a way out of the sarcophagus. Thanks
oops hope you have a save back in Priypat... if not... you are outa luck...
That's what I thought, I've walked back and forth so much in this game I was hoping (against hope) that I wouldn't have to start again, oh well. Thanks for the reply.
There's a trick somebody stumbled onto where you can equip the Gauss rifle and drop it right near the hinges of that door which pops it open. You may have to be aiming through the scope when you drop it. I saw a video of it, the gun's front half goes no clipping right through the door in a stabbing motion, so I think he was aiming with it when he dropped it. There is a guy that made a set of speedrun videos of each section between level gates completing the whole game in about 49 minutes (including all the portals of the exended ending). He used the Gauss rifle trick on that door too.
lol, that guy must be a total stalker-freak, doin' it in 49mins... :P
or maybe the opposite, not takin' the time to enjoy it... :P
Yeah that doors a pain as when i got up to it, it would not open... i had collected the decoder and it still wouldnt open and a npc was shooting me from the other side of it... LOL so i thought that maybe this npc was blocking the door, so i couldnt shoot him even though he could shoot me so i reloaded my game, and same problem again, so there was only one thing left to do...BLOW it open, so i required a grenade and threw it at the door... and BINGO the door now can open...LOL gota love blowing shit up to correct something even a bug...
I've been doin some door experiments with the gun dropping trick. I couldn't get the one behind the sniper's perch on the wall between the center of Red Forest and the road to the Brain Scorcher (the area just before the ghosts appear). I did have success trying a couple things with the gate Duty guards south of Bar though. I pushed it open on the way to Bar like the guy in the speedrun did. Then when I got back I thought I was screwed because it was closed again and I couldn't push it open. So I tried the gun drop trick and it opened right away. Ironically I got almost all the way to the Brain Scorcher then realized I forgot to go see Guide and Doc. Thus I'll be forced to try the gun drop trick again. I've seen it work on the secret decoder door in the Sarcophagus but I'm going to try it on the hotel room door in Pripyat first. Last time I forgot one of the visits required to get the decoder info it was Doc and I was all the way to the hotel in Pripyat. At least this time there's a reason for me to not backtrack all that way.
No go on the hotel room door but after several tries with the Gauss gun on the secret code door leading to the extended ending I finally was able to get the gun drop trick to open it. That means you don't have to backtrack all the way to Cordon or see Doc. It's also handy if you just plain forget to visit Guide or Doc, like I did TWICE (Doh!). If you know the right spot on the door and the technique it doesn't take too long to learn the trick. I found you do need to aim it first and the spot that seems to work best is wedging it above the lower hinge pin at an angle toward the door. Make sure you save before trying it because the gun sometimes no clips through the door and the Gauss is the only one that works to do this. A little trivia, besides reading of this trick and seeing it in a video, I was further inspired to try it at Sarcophagus by having a bit of success with it in the Brain Scorcher bunker. I experimented on one of the doors with a key pad there and managed to pop the door completely off, it literally disappeared! The only thing behind it was a rock wall but it gave me confidence to try the Sarcophagus door. Happy hunting STALKERS! :ak3:
Man, I was hoping there was something good behind those doors, too...
Thanks for this "Gun stuck in the door trick" -- took a few tries but it does work -- was able to go on and play through the extended ending.
