I've watched the videos since early on and of course they can't change them once they get in full swing. It's been just that long of course. You work on something that's high-end when it's first started, and nearing completion it looks a little stale. I am honestly a sucker for good graphics but I've made my bad purchases of good looking but bad playing games, so now I like to think I am a more critical consumer. I'm more interested in the gameplay dynamics though than the gfx in the game. The plot is unique as is the free-roaming aspects of the game. Just wandering through woods to abandoned cities to the big ferris wheel to a military outpost to meet the dealer to hiding in a building while night passes. I mean, each of those things would have a hude load time on it's own. The openendedness [is that a word?] of the game and the objectives is what has me excited, but it may turn off a few hopeful newbie STALKERS if they see it not looking like FEAR or Prey or what have you. It won't be winning any graphics awards, but I hope ppl don't harp on that in this day of crappy FPS games. I truly believe gameplay is way more important than graphics and that is what creates the replayability [unscripted AI helps] and makes you really appreciate and admire the game. So many games look great but then there is no replayability when you get to the end. I hope STALKER is the one that stands appart from HL2, D3, FEAR, etc.
No! I'm Spamacus!

Maybe I am poorly informed of what constitures good graphics, but what makes the graphics for this game "stale"? It looks amazing to me. :uhm:
Yeah, even with the engine getting old (by game standards, anything over 6 months is old) it is still very detailed, and very good looking.
From what i hear, it can even rival UE3 in some aspects.
Captain AmerikaIt won't be winning any graphics awards,
right now, we all know little, it will most likely win graphic awards, in fact, definatly.
I hope STALKER is the one that stands appart from HL2, D3, FEAR, etc.
it has from the begining, all the rest i completly agree.
You may have been looking at screenshots that display X-Ray in it's Alpha Build, or watching an old trailer. Even though X-Ray is a bit old, it's still the most detailed engine I've ever seen.
Sniper said it can, indeed, rival the Unreal 3 engine. He also said it's the most "flexable", meaning there are so many capabilities with X-Ray.
And X-ray isnt just for First Person Shooters, since it is so flexible, it can be branched out into other genres, they will need to change the code here and there, do some times..
very ture and valid points, here is the link to the dx 9 trailer captian america. http://files.gsc-game.com/st/e3_dx9/stk_dx9_hq.avi i want them to make splinter cell 4 with x-ray, it would OWN ass. but ubi isnt...so everyone cry :(
well said captain amerika, i really belive storylines should be the selling point of games, that's precisley the reason i felt half life 2 didnt deliver. it has been said that 40% of the storyline was cut!. acctually i'm quite pleased that the reason for thq's delay it that they "had to rework the storylrne" after the origional storyline was not good enough. i look forward to seeing what amazing gameplay and story awaits
I've seen that 20 times. I AM talking about the 'new' videos.
that is the newest video
