Hey everyone I'm new the stalker scene and so far have been playing around with more mods than the game itself =P.

I've done a few mior tweaks basically trying to keep the challenge while reomving some stupid crap the game devs implemented. fyi a few of my changes have been....

skip down if not interested, i have a few questions

-------------------------------------------

no head bobbing

ammo at vendors (wondering if i should keep it, does it make the game too easy?)

Extra textures/blood

Weather mod, love this mod, especially the dark spooky nighttime's it has to offer.

Sped up crouch speed and jump height a tiny amount. (to pick up the pace in combat where I'm almost always crouched)

Real gun names (brush up on my gun infos)

Viper in first slot (i think they should have implemented this one)

couple mods to enhance English text, a repair mod, annoying audio fix, and a few others which im too lazy to name

---------------------------------------------

OK so now my questions come in. This is my first playthrough and im starting on master...the only problems ive been having is lack of good weapons. ive got a pistol and a shotgun which doesn't allow for anything but close combat so its been rough. finally got a nice modded ak-74 in the military catacombs though and things are looking better. (i added the ammo mod because of low rifle ammo drops, once again not sure if this will get better with time or this is an ammo game like in the resident evil series)

Question 1 - Nighttime detection. I've stumbled upon the concept of enemy AI seeing much less at night, and only if you are in a light source (be it my flash or theirs), and frankly fell in love with the idea. for 2/3 of the game im strolling around picking people off with my rifle, and the other 1/3 im creeping around in pitch black with enemies around me who cant see me (as i cant see them either without their headlight on). that allows for some extremely fun stealth missions.

Does anyone know a GOOD mod for this nighttime detection type idea ive got? im currently looking into "rules of engagement" it seems promising but havent had time to test it. This is my main hope though as enemies can still see me from a kilometer away even if im in darkness and crouching...pretty "NOT REALISTIC" if you ask me. si stealth/detection, please give me any input you possibly can on this.

Question 2- I tend to have the most fun fighting mutants, most likely because they are rare and freakish! I WANT MORE MUTANTS!! without making any major game or scripting changes, or adding a complete overhaul like abc or OL. What im looking for is basically a way to add mutants, to the same spots where normal mutants lurk, only have slight more spawns or even just to replace the spawns of other units.

ex, 4 dogs spawn in garbage....now 2 dogs and 2 flesheatingcrackheads spawn, or better yet 3 and 3, more mutants!! once again all info would be really helpful as i haven't found any solid mods for this without rehauling everything.

Question 3- more things would i like are solid texture packs. make the stalkers a little variable, they are all the same. same goes for bandits. basically more more more. more suits, more weapons, more stalkers, more mutants. i feel like i cant get enough of this game.

someone correct me here if needby, ive only just arrived at the bar so i most likely havent seen too much yet, but right now i feel craved for more content. im loving what theyve given me so far but feel like if the rate of enemies etc keep the rise at this rate ill feel dissapointed. so let me know if theres going to be a shitload more stuff before i start looking for mods that a bunch more.

thanks for reading and please help a modda out!

Welcome! Most of your questions would have been answered with a quick google search but since you're new ill let it go this time :p

ChrisM1819;4591453 ammo at vendors (wondering if i should keep it, does it make the game too easy?)
Dont know why you wouldnt, traders selling ammo is not unrealistic, if you really want to you can make it more expensive

ChrisM1819;4591453 Extra textures/blood
I understand youve done your own but this may be of interest Hades' Real Gore Mod, Stalker Downloads, Stalker Singleplayer

Ammo shouldnt be scarce in vanilla but if you're disappointed with the lack of a gun at the start you can add it to the convo you have with wolf where he gives you the pistol, knife, etc. You can throw in an AK from the start.

Open escape_dialog.script located in \gamedata\scripts\ and find this chunk of code function wolf_additional_reward(first_speaker, second_speaker) dialogs.relocate_item_section(first_speaker, "medkit", "in") dialogs.relocate_item_section(first_speaker, "bandage", "in") dialogs.relocate_item_section(first_speaker, "wpn_fort", "in") dialogs.relocate_item_section(first_speaker, "grenade_f1", "in") dialogs.relocate_item_section(first_speaker, "ammo_9x18_fmj", "in") end

You can put an additional line like that just put in something like wpn-ak74 i believe. For ammo you put ammo_5.45x39_fmj
Question 1 - Nighttime detection.

Its been discussed over the forums for ages, the conclusion is that its not really possible to alter, the stealth element in this game sucks and hasnt been improved much in clear sky either. sorry.

You havent found any because the main way of spawning mutants is altering all.spawn file which is large, complex, and confusing. To top it all of requires a new game. There really is no easy way of adding more mutants to the game. OL added a script which can be edited directly but it controlls the number of mutants that spawn after blowouts.

Check out Editing all.spawn (the link is cached because the site is down) and see if you still want more mutants :)

There are quite a bit of re-skins for stalker available on the net, a quick search should have shown you that. FPSBANANA > Skins > STALKER > Players Stalker Download Files, Download Stalker Patches - FileFront.com

And you asked about new sounds Stalker Download Files, Download Stalker Patches - FileFront.com

You'll get quite of a battle still ahead of you, my recommendation is finish the vanilla play through as is. Get the real ending. Then get OL and tweak it to your liking. It really is a great and immersive mod.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response!! unfortunatly it was filled with bad news =( I also want you to know I've done A LOT of research over the past couple days, which is most likely why the things i cant find dont exist =P

the thought of changing the ai in a mod does seem rather difficult as a lot of professional game devs occasionally don't get the ai right =/ I'm going to hope you're wrong on this one and someone gives me a miracle but from how experienced you seem i doubt it =(

I will probably do what you say, just play thru the game and then check out OL, it looks madly popular so it must be good. in the meantime if anyone else can add anything its be great.

I've also been getting a lot stuttered or cutting while playing. it seems to have happened after i isntalled some texture and text dialog mods. i dont know if they have caused it or im just getting picky with my graphic settings. does anyone have any tips for this cutting im eperiencing besides unistalling mods? I've read about a prefetch but an unsure of how to change it.

its like i will run and then freeze for a millisecord or so and keep going.

Its a common issue with the game, most of the time the game does not have enough ram to operate properly, so you can increase virtual memory, add more ram.

The easiest fix is to turn on -noprefetch. To do that right click on the SoC shortcut on your desktop (hopefully you got one, if not, make one) and look at the "Target" line add -noprefetch at the end but put 1 space after the quote so like this .exe" -noprefetch It will help a little.

Also if you haven't already, you can skip the loading movies by adding -nointro as well

As for the AI detection, i only recall one somewhat successful attempt at improving AI detection and even then the mod just decreased the range of perception for the NPCs during night time. Or did he try to make it? I cant recall anymore but i haven't heard anything about it since ive read it a while back.
