I would like to have NO sound (or at least insignificant so it doesn't alert bandits/mercs/soldiers) while drawing out a weapon, turning on/off nightvision and to move around a little quieter while walking. How do I accomplish these things?

yeah I agree. Very annoying to pull out a grenade and have every npc on the level simultaneously yell out. Or to climb a ladder and when reaching the top or bottom, same thing.

Not sure, but on weapons I usually set all silencers to the VAL sound...its about the quietest shot int he game. I suppose you could scroll through the .LTX files and find each sound file reference.....

Seems like there was a way to make the sounds quieter even by adding a number after the sound file name.....but you will have to ask a modder that question, its been months since i did it last and i cannot remember how.

just say it says this: snd_silncer_shot = weapons\groza_silenced just put a space then a 0.1 to make it a tenth of the noise and yes it DOES affect how much the NPC's hear you.

Thats the magic number i couldn't remember!!

Should work on thing like knife drawing, grenade readying, etc...as long as there is a snd line in the ltx right?

I'll put up a silent drawing pack up shortly for testing.

Hey man that's really nice! MUCH better. Certain sounds like chambering a round in a pump shotgun should be loud but drawing weapons quietly now is so much better.:bows:

For silent nightvision, open up the items.ltx and look for the entry for the torch, or search for [device_torch].

Then find the lines:

snd_night_vision_on = weapons\nv_start snd_night_vision_off = weapons\nv_off snd_night_vision_idle = weapons\nv_loop snd_night_vision_broken = weapons\nv_off

and add numbers to the end of each line, like this:

snd_night_vision_on = weapons\nv_start, 0.0 snd_night_vision_off = weapons\nv_off, 0.0 snd_night_vision_idle = weapons\nv_loop, 0.0 snd_night_vision_broken = weapons\nv_off, 0.0

and you're all set. You can use any number between 0.0 and 1.0. 1.0 being the loudest, and probably loud enough to alert the entire level =p

Thanks, anyone know where the sound for inventory is located?
