$app_data_root$=true|false|C:\|Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\STALKER-SHOC\.

This is the command line I was wondering about. Could I possibly change the line that states the location so that I can say my gamedata folder is in my bigger partition? I have 10 gigs part'ed for Windows, and I definitely do not have enough room for all the game databases (less than 1 gig free).

Basically: Can I change that line without the game having a problem? Or maybe can I move my STALKER-SHOC folder to somewhere else and change it then?

I really want to mod.

That folder isnt that big, you could probably leave it on the smaller partition

You extract the archives into the STALKER folder.

C:\Program files\THQ\STALKER\gamedata or where ever its installed to

LoL, when you extract them, its basically a copy of the real ones, it doesnt matter where it is extracted to at all because it doesnt pull them out of the game. When you modify a file and put it in a gamedata FOLDER for a mod, the game reads it instead of the original game database files, which means all you would have to do it pull the gamedata folder out of the stalker directory, and your game goes back to normal :) -hope this helps-

Thanks for the help, I read a FAQ on Gamefaqs.com and he TOTALLY confused me in his FAQ *sweat*.

PS: do I still have to do that thing in the fsgame/ltx file? chinging the "False|True" to "True|True" on the second line($game_data$)?

yes, that makes your game read from the gamedata FOLDER instead of the package file. P.S. If you havent made a gamedata folder with custom stuff, the game will run from the original, it basically makes YOUR mod's priority higher than the original files.

Ah. Ok.

One more thing, I SWEAR!

I was reading the basic modding of Weapons sticky, I tried it myself, and my game crashed. I only modded to add a new weapon in the Unique_weap.ltx file. Was there something I missed?

Maybe I could find a simplified checklist of "Things to do so you don't bork your game"?

Ok, You dont have to add anything to Unique_weap.ltx if you want to make a gun, unless you want it to be the only gun like that in the game. Usually you can just extract a gamedata file (Not sure which one) and open the config\weapons\ folder that comes out of it and edit the weapon file you want. Then you goto C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl (or wherever yours is located) and make a folder called "gamedata" without the ". Open the gamedata folder, and make another one named "config" then another one inside of "config" called "weapons" paste your modified .ltx in that and it should work. It should like this when you start: C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl and this when you finish: C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\gamedata\config\weapons\ The weapon filename should remain the same. Like Winchester1200.ltx should still have the same name, just be in your C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\gamedata\config\weapons folder.

Heres an example for the above information 1)Extract GameData file 2)Find config\weapons folder 3)I modify and edit w_ak74.ltx 4)I open my C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl 5)I create a folder named "gamedata" 6)Inside "gamedata" i create a folder name "config" 7)In "config" I make a folder named "weapons" 8)Inside the weapons folder, I paste the w_ak74.ltx file 9)I play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 10)I go find the modified gun and play with it P.S. You wont see the modifications in the description because that is a separate folder, but you can tell if you did it right, say I wanted the w_ak74 to shoot normal shotgun shells, It wouldnt say in the description that it uses them, but If I pick shotgun shells up and hit the "swap ammo" button, It would show me on the ammo/clip part of my hud they are equipped (and when I fire it would look cool lol)
