Hello guys. I am now to the forum, but I am having the same problem. I wanted to mod the game to make it a little more free and upgrade a few weapons. I extracted only one database file: "gamedata". It is a DB0 file of size 664,208kb. I extracted it into a folder called "gamedata" in my STALKER folder.
I then edited a few weapon and suit values (in gamedata/config/misc/weapons) to make them stronger. I also turned on the gamedata=true thing in my fsgame.ltx file. I have run Oblivion and ABC mod with complete sucess, but I can't run my own tweaked version (I deleted other mods before using my own and game worked fine between mods).
When I start up the game, I get the small window with the Stalker in a gasmask on it. Then I get a black screen like normal, but his one stays a little longer than usual and just quits out back to windows.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

You most likely have an error in your files that is preventing the game from launching
(I only have my config file from the unpack. Do I have to delete any files that I did not modify?)

It usually helps to only have the modified files in there
Thanks a bunch. I will try that and see what happens. I deleted the gamedata folder completely and the game worked fine. I'm going to delete unmodified files and retry.
Murgoth, bro when you get a CTD, open a new text document and press CTRL-V, this will show you the xray error which will help you to identify the error.
Could it be that you extracted the mod-gamedata in an other gamedata folder? would look like that Shadow of Chernobyl\gamedata\gamedata.... This happens to me sometimes.
I have had the same trouble with mods I have done. I've got to the point where I start with the orig game files, change only a few settings, and then test. Bulldog 6 for example, high mag capacities actually stop the game from loading. Reduce the mag cap down to a lower number and the game loads fine. I have done this testing with numerous files (very time consuming) and have found issues with changing some settings for the Actor.ltx, some weapons, and various other files. Other people have no problems with the game with mods or without, but I have with two different computers.
This game is finicky. The large detailed maps stress even the best systems and vid cards. It is very crashy and picky about its files but I think it is great when it works!
Oh, and don't change the actor jump speed to 99, you'll jump into orbit.
I deleted all files that I did not edit, including Notepad documents what I dis not edit. I am left with only 3 folders in my gamedata/config and my system document.
The game will now load (faster than before), but no animals or weapons exist and there are no other humans. Its like when I deleted the documents in the creatures folder, I deleted their very existence.
All I modded was my carry weight to 1250kg, my power restore, 4 or 5 weapons to be more accurate and not deteriorate, and a few artifacts and other such things in the misc folder. I did not mod textures or scripts or levels or anything like that. My gamedata folder is only 862kb big.
Also, I checked to make sure my gamedata folder is not inside another gamedata folder.
I don't know what a CTD is.
My entire gamedata folder is attached.
Sorry for double posting, but I can't edit. I did the ctrl+v thing and I got this:
Expression : fatal error Function : CInifile::r_section File : E:\stalker\sources\trunk\xrCore\Xr_ini.cpp Line : 342 Description : Arguments : Can't open section 'stalker_sakharov'
Your doing some weird stuff. I deleted the system.ltx folder and creatures folder and the other characters reappeared. -for a 500 kg weight mod I would change max_item_mass = 500 then I would add in the line underneath it inv_max_weight = 500 then I would go down and change the line max_walk_weight = 500 For the bullet speed having a bullet speed for the fn2000 of 1500 and a maximum distance of 400 is strange. Maybe increase the firing distances. What else where you trying to do. You have a lot of files.
