Hello all, I have just been playing two different mods off and on for the past couple weeks and I love them both, ABC inferno, and the newest version of Oblivion lost, but there are certain parts of these mods that I don’t like and some that I like a lot. I would like to mesh some parts of each mod that I like together but I don’t know what file goes with what file and so on. Mostly I only know how to mod weapons, armor, and trader files thanx to Nifties nifty tutorial. But there are certain things in each mod id like to keep. For example I enjoy the blowouts in the ABC mod but not the Oblivion Lost mod, no offense to the creator/creators of the OL mod but the ABC version literally made me fall out of my chair and no game since F.E.A.R. has even made me jump, that deserves some respect. I also like the HUD affect each piece of armor in the ABC mod has, but I like the more leisurely but fun pace of the OL mod. I have Winmerge and im learning quickly how to use it but that isn’t all im going to need. I would like to pull different parts of one mod and add them to the other but after merging them Willie nillie it won’t even start, I honestly don’t know what im doing when it comes to scripts, weather, and spawns. Im also trying to add new songs to the guitars but it keeps giving me an error, something like guitar_1.ogg from music folder so and so has no comment file, or something of that nature, I don’t have the x-ray log handy right now. Any help would be much appreciated and I know it’s a lot to ask, but im a patient man, take your time. :) Savage117

Oblivion Lost and ABC are probably the two most COMPLEX mods out there right now. Merging them its damn near impossible.

Well, that sux, but I doubt it’s impossible. I only want to take some parts of one and replace it in the other. Particularly I would like to replace the OL random blowout with the ABC random blowout, add the detector belt add-on, add the repair kits, mobile explosives, near-invisible anomalies, horror time without the monsters appearing on top of you, and chaotic weather is cool. I know how to modify armor and armaments but the rest is unknown to me. I don’t intend to distribute my mod unless others want something like it so this is for my own enjoyment, and if others want it I will most definitely give credit to the original modders. I think I would probably be better off knew how to mod it myself but I could not find any tutorials on modding other parts of the game, if any can help it would be much appreciated. Savage117

The weather systems in both mod are very complex, and Kanyhalos (author of Oblivion Lost) has said that merging the two mods is near impossible. Check the Oblivion lost thread, its in there somewhere.

Lets take one example of what you want to do, ...horror time edit. You want to change the spawn location for the zombies in horror time. First, you would have to find a spawn location that you would want to redirect those mutants to. It will be a different location on each map (the main reason why zombies are coded to spawn at your location is that tracking your location is already written into code and is relatively easy to associate to). You would have to write the code to ID these spawn points so that you could associate to those points and tied to your current map location (there is no point spawning mutants in Rostok if you are located on the Cordon map, ...although, ...there would be Hell to pay when you eventually do show up in Rostok, ... , ...good luck with that one). Changing the Blowout feature sounds pretty straight forward. Just change out all the files associated with that event. Don't miss any of them or you'll have problems. If you are serious then open and study the Inferno and OL mod files. Compare both mods and see how they differ. Find the areas to change and do the little things first and build your way up. Also, review the 'Editing the all.spawn' thread to learn how to do that. Its best to save (and / or compile) your edits a bit at a time and try them out in the game. That way (if you crash) you can spend less time tracking down the problem. Don't edit everything all at once and expect it to come out perfect (it probably won't).
