If you are a modder of any kind, and you havn't done so already, may I suggest creating new content in STALKER? What we have here is a game in which many things were left out, and it can definently use improvement, and customization. Now, don't get me wrong, it's an excellent game, but there is always room for improvement. :) If we start creating content in advance, then when we finally recieve the SDK, there can be a huge bang of mods! All we would have to do is implement them into the game, save, and release. There would be no time wasted creating the object, while other players are getting excited KNOWING that we can finally have more customized mods. For example, last night I started a model for an M16A1 to add in game once we get the SDK. And you may be thinking, "If we start now, then there won't be anything else to mod later, and the game would get boring!" That is where you are wrong, my friend. With the SDK we would be able to do a VAST amount of things, not only just add new models. Now, what do ya say, fellow modders? Start making that content in advance, so you can release it sooner!
And therein lies the problem. You cant fully modify the game files WITHOUT the SDK.
What I was saying is we create things like models and textures, save them UNTIL the SDK is released, then put them into the game. You don't need the SDK to create new models, only to put them in-game.
hmm, sounds nice... well I would say, go on you modders, do-it! but hey, why not try and help... I do some 3D modelling myself... ok, just standing images, but hey, what exactly is needed for a weapon model for example?? by which I mean, what are the requirements for a game model?
And now with the coming SDK, this would be a perfect time to start!
Its just a beta atm, so we cant do anything big with it really
Note that I said coming SDK, rather than the SDK. Start now, release when the full thing comes out.
Other than making new models (ie models that aren't in-game), we can do pretty much everything else related to "modifying existing content" without the SDK.
Yes we can make new models, but what size? Should the model be facing front or back? Must it be lying down or standing up? Texturers like give_em_hell can't do textures without the mesh producing a correct UV Map for the game.
While having an OGFViewer helps, it doesn't really answer all the questions cos we can't see the textures when we view it in our 3D tools.
All these questions can only be answered by an SDK.
