Gun Sights Mod, by ZanderArch, is currently in development. What this mod aims to add are, just as the title suggests, Gun sights. Various, no magnification, scope textures that should make aiming your rifle easier than the normal Iron Sights.

Original Development Plan: Create Scope Textures, then clone the SUSAT and PSO-1 scopes but change the sight graphic and zoom factor. Put them up for sale cheap so they can be interchanged freely among rifles so those who like variety in their weapons can have it without taking a larger chunk of RU out of their pocket.

Original Development Plan Problem: S.T.A.L.K.E.R cannot recognize more than one scope per rifle. After having cloned the Test SUSAT and changing the graphic, the game would not allow mounting on the LR-300 of either the original 4X SUSAT or the modified Red Dot X1 SUSAT.

Working Development Plan: Create Scope Textures. Clone assault rifles. Edit cloned assault rifles to have a scope fixed to them that uses the custom scope textures.

Project starting date: Thursday, July 19th, 2007.

Current Progress (As of Friday, July 20th, 2007): A working 1024 x 1024 scope texture of a Aim Point Red Dot sight mounted on the LR-300 is in game. Current Issues: Sight texture is 1:1 ratio while game window is 4:3 Ratio, causing the sight to be slightly squashed down. Red Dot is not Transparent enough and just a hair to the right of center screen. Weird solid line to the right of scope. Yet to be edited out.

Release conditions: I'm hoping to have 1 good sight on a rifle before release. Once all the issues listed above are solved, Version 1 will be released. It will contain a Red Dot Aim Point mounted on the LR-300 Assault rifle. Target Date: Before Monday, July 22nd, 2007.

Developer request to the community: If you own and firearms, airsoft rifles, or replica weapons and have a gun sight along the lines of EOtech, Red Dot, Reflex, Aimpoint, or any other no magnification sighting system, please post/send pictures of the view through the scope, either post them in this thread, private message me links to hosted images, or e-mail them to me at Zander_NekoX AT Yahoo DOT com. Thank you.

Notes: Screen shots will be posted shortly, I want to iron out a few things before the sight goes public.

Comments? Questions? Suggestions? Requests(Custom work on sights will be done later in development, until then stick to sight type and rifle it's mounted on.)?

Here are a few shots. The ratio is still off, that will take a while to get right, but I think I got the transparency right and the sight it self looks pretty nice. Ignore the black blur of a mount, that will need some work too. Also got rid of that weird line that was to the right of the sight. 1. Close range sighting. 2. Long shot with NVGs on (Shot missed since after the screen shot saved, he was up and shooting me.) 3. Showing where the cross hair is. 4. Showing how centered the sight it self is.

Triple post! Accursed Edit button, it flees after 30 minutes, and all my of quick changes and testing takes exactly 32 minutes to do! Here's a quick update, got the sight to round out. Took a few tires, ended up using trying to scale the image from 1024 X 1024 to 1024 X 1280, but it still redid it for 4:3 Ratio with the vertical squish. Then I shrank the graphic it self to 1024 x 768 while the image was still 1024 x 1024. Bingo, it worked :D

looks nice, but why a scope with no magnification??? so you're going to make new base weapons with the hex editor, or make new uniques with it??

They aren't scopes. They are sights. Why? Because they are much more useful at close range, no longer being forced to use Iron sights which totally block the bottom part of your screen. These sights are meant for CQB so you can see below where you are aiming more than with iron sights and have an easier time getting a target. Plus, in the case of the LR-300, they don't bob up and down when standing still, so you can always get an accurate shot without having to time it. Also, since you don't see the muzzle climb, you can see your target get hit. Thus, you can make a more accurate second shot or confirm the kill faster. Albeit it's less than a second, but that can make the difference between taking down multiple contacts with a smile on your face or getting taken down by multiple contacts with a frown on your face hoping your last save was very recent.

I'm making new base weapons, just coping the original file and editing the addon_scope value to 1 rather than 2 and using the custom scope graphic, zoom factor, and descriptions. I probably should use the Unique_Item.ltx, but then it would overwrite anyone using custom content. The way I'm doing this means the only conflict my files will have with anything is the trader files and description files.

REVIVAL!

Alright, as you may have noticed, I released version one. Here's an update on version two.

I've made some minor adjustments to the Red Dot on the LR300 that's already in, fixed up the dials a bit so they are even more and updated the red dot it self.

I've also decided to add a L85 texture (This includes the SUSAT addon), even though it isn't a sight but rather a scope, it's still going in.

The next gun sight I'm going to add in an SG552 with an EOtech by request in the comments of Version 1's release. It's almost done. The SG552 base which the sight will be mounted on is 75% done, just need to smooth out the edges a little more. The EOtech is properly situated in a location where it would be. The major thing missing is the circular ring around the dot it self, I've been having some trouble putting that bit together, but the dot it self is done.

I'll hopefully have Version 2 out in the next two days. Maybe longer if the circle doesn't come together. It may be delayed longer if Dead Rising is delivered. <<;

I like this Zander, but have a couple suggestions. Can you make the ring of the site so it's walls aren't as thick? That would allow even more view of the target. Also, maybe an optional laser sight vs this one. Don't know if that would be possible though.

Yeah, the walls were pretty thick, that was a scaling issue I ran into since I was up scaling a picture of one. I can't get to that in Version 2, but I might address that later, I have found a very nice and very large Red dot sight graphic I could replace it with. It will come, but later.

A laser sight could work, depending on how you'd want it. If you'd like a "hip shot" laser sight, it wouldn't be possible without scoping in. I could texture a picture of the rifle held at the hip, then add a laser sight to it, but that'd be ugly (Rifle wouldn't move when firing, muzzle flash would be off, etc.). Or, if you mean just removing the scope body and leaving the red dot itself, then that could be done easily. Heck, I could even add the laser pointer to the weapon (only when sighted in) and the laser beam it self.
