Cause i know i do! I was thinking about this as i was looking over skins by the many talented skinners we have out there in the stalker community. Then i gots to thinkin about this program i used...called armoury, used in a halflife mod called Action-halflife. It was really a great idea as the whole mod centered around the guns really. It allowed you to switch models, skins, sounds, and animations without having to copy and paste and move around a bunch of files manually. Why not have something like that for stalker? Assuming its possible that is. Of course as the SDK comes out we'll probably be seeing new models and such for the weapons and god knows what else. Itll take a bit of coding...a bit of hardwork...and probably an assload of cursing and liquer (lol) but hey why not?:nodding:
I see no reason this shouldn't be possible, at least with regard to switching skins, sounds, and item stats. It's really just a matter of either
a. Having variations of the same weapon/item/sound files and switching/renaming them using a UI, or b. Editing the current ones through the UI, which would really only work for the config and text files, obviously not the sound or .DDS skins.
I'm more centered in the Audio/Visual side of modding. I'm sure I could slap together a basic .bat file, but with my skill level that would only swap between two very specific files at best. Anyone out there with some programming skills who could knock something like this together?
Also, in a seperate but similar idea, I've used front-end programs for games like Oblivion that essentially create multiple folders for savegames and rename one of them to the game default depending on who's using it. This makes it much easier for several people to keep track of only their savegames while they play, or even for one person to have multiple "Characters" not cluttering up the default savegame list all the time... Just a thought. If I wasn't clear on what I mean, I'll try to put it down more clearly upon request.
Whoops. Double posted that. Can a mod delete this post? thanks.
Thats an excellent idea that you could combine with mine. Say one character has a set of weapons while you want another character to have a different set. Or say you want to switch the kind of sets between the two or so. In the armoury i was talking about it had a open view window to show you the skins models and animations and also had it to where you heard the sounds. All very convienient and all very cool. I think stalker would benifit greatly from this.
