i am trying to mod my game. i already got the .db extractor and only extracted the gamedata.db0 file. the program i used can be found at S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Database Extractor, Stalker Downloads, Stalker Miscellaneous . the program wouldent let me extract the file directly to the stalker folder , so i extracted it to an external harddrive and copied and pasted the data to the stalker folder. i still have the file named gamedata.db0, but i also have a bunch of new folders called weapons, ui, weathers, creatures, text, scrips, prefetch, mp, and so on. should i have deleted the gamedata.db0 file? when i go to the weapon folder to change variables, the LTX file wont let me save the changes to the file. is this normal? to save it, i went to the file on the external hard drive and changed it from there because it let me save it. i tried to make the SPAS hold 12 rounds instead of 8 by changing the ammo_ mag_size variable, saving it to the other HD then puting it in the main stalker folder and deleting the original SPAS file. this DID NOT WORK. i am using vista 64bit and have trader mod 1.1 installed.

Hey chester742....first off you want to leave the original db files alone. Use the extractor to extract the db file to a different folder or location. At that point create a new folder in your stalker installation folder and name it gamedata....you will also have to create sub-folders in gamedata, for instance config (which is probably the main one you will be using) Now you create subfolders in THAT folder....for instance misc . Now you copy the files you want to modify to the proper folder you created....keep the same integrity in your new folders as what the unpacked db file has. Now go back to your main stalker directory and modify the file fsgame.ltx........change the 2nd line where it says: $game_data$ = false| true| to $game_data$ = true| true|

This will make the game engine search for the folders you just created instead of the main db files. A side note for you....if you have updated to the latest patch the newest db file will be dbb and you should start with it for your mod. That should get you going! (You should probably go back and delete the files that you unpacked into the stalker directory)

Uggh...should have read your post better...if you have the trader mod installed, you probably have already modified your fsgame.ltx file and the trader mod should have already created a folder called gamedata. NOW start with the subfolders and follow the instructions in my previous post. So, to do your SPAS mod....your folder structure should something like this: c\program files\thq\stalker shadow of chernobyl\gamedata\config\weapons and your file you are modding wpn_spas12.ltx should be in the weapons folder. Good luck!

That will work fine...but to make the game pick up the mod you will still have to edit the fsgame.ltx file....the readme file for the trader mod has the instructions in it. Let me know how it works out!

If the trader mod was the only mod you were using then you probably need to delete all those files and start with a empty gamedata folder and just add the folders and files you are modding. It sounds like you did not completely remove the trader mod and if these files are part of it, the engine will try to load them first (before the vanilla files) and you will probably get a crash. If you have installed Float32..it will create a folder called shaders in the gamedata folder...so leave it alone. You may want to download the mod I just posted and have a look at how it is structured...and also, if you decide to use multiple mods, you MUST first compare the files in the different mods and make sure that the mods don't use the SAME file. If they do, you have to merge the files very carefully to make all the mods work. I do it manually, one line at a time...really a pain. Can't bring myself to trust some merger programs to do it for me! Fatrap
