I think I have a good system [FX57 single core @ 2.8, 2 gigs DDR400, Evga 8800 GTS 320 mb, over 300 gig free HD space] but I can only run STALKER on Medium and some High settings and get playable frame rates.

Am I missing out on some hot patch or something, because I wonder why I can run other games that look much better than STALKER on max but STALKER itself I have to run on Medium settings and it still looks like crap?

I think I have the GPU section covered for STALKER, is my processor holding me back that much?

My P.C. has the processor(s) and the memory but I have a pretty gash graphics card NV6200. I can run on medium settings though and get no lag. You will manage to get full dynamic lughting to run with your card but you may need a couple of patches. Check out Tweakguides.com specifically the stalker sections they're pretty thorough.

i think the game should play better on your hardware..maybe a dual core cpu is holding ya back or you have res set to high..but..my hardware is not as good and with mods or patch 1004..well i all ways play dynamic lighting..but..i have grass set to off..as says tweak guide its no difference in no grass or set to a 3rd or so..and for me its better..i can better see small stuff on the ground..grenades what ever.. but all my other settings are full blast..light distance and shadows set to 3/4.. i have af set to like 60% or so..my game plays and looks great for older hardware..so.. stalker is a hard on hardware game period.and same exact systems ..the game will play great on 1 and more buggy on the other..i do not know what else to say.. see ya

That site is practically useless. People always link it. It gets you maybe 5 fps unless you don't know shit about settings and you didn't read the manual so you're putting AA on 4x while running your FX5200. I know about settings and what taxes the system, I'm asking about what my bottleneck could be.

Just a follow up point:

I saw some benchmarks of some testing PCs that had X6800 core, 4 gigs DDR2, 2 8800 Ultras in SLI, etc and it only got 72 FPS in STALKER, but the grass shadows were disabled in the test. Is it just me, or is this incredibly shitty FPS? I was thinking around 100 at least.

Yes the game is much more demanding than others, it wasn't built on a perfected engine.
