Alright, I thought I'd dig through the sound files and find the ones that make that annoying beeping noise every time you get close to an anomaly and replace it/them with empty files to eliminate the sound. Unfortunately the codec I found only plays half the files and I can't find out which ones to change.
If anyone figures out how to do this I'm sure I won't be the only one grateful.

Wouldn't it be easier just to edit the file that detects the anomalies? If of course we can figure out what that is.
This is a pretty simple tweak.. and is a lot easier to do via editing the file, rather than removing the .ogg file. First, open the items.ltx in the /misc folder. Do a search for "detector_simple" and look underneath there for a property called radius, set that = 0, and viola! No more beeping. The buzzer_radius which -should- be the setting you want, actually doesn't make a difference. Perhaps it's for the radiation, or some other effects. Regardless, set it to 0 as well if you don't want your detector bothering you, ever.
It also shows up under the "detector_advanced" and "detector_elite". Not sure when you get those, but you can set the radius and buzzer_radius to 0 on them, as well, just to be sure you'll never get noise. You may die in a horrible radioactive mush, but you won't have to listen to the buzzer going off while it happens.
cool thanks a lot. I couldn't figure out which file controlled the detector. Now I'll have to tread a little more lightly in the zone :)
Yeah, if you get sucked into a vortex by accident, let me know. I'll give you the info on how to make it so you can escape it :P it's a pretty weak hack, but if you run half way over a zone and get stuck in one without saving.. it helps =D
Why not post it? lol :P
had a lot of problems getting this to work (as I wanted to keep the Geiger counter function but lose the beeping so changing the radius to zero wouldn't work).
I changed the items.ltx file so it called for the "zone_mosquito_bald" sound file instead of the "detectors\DA-2_beep1" file and it works great.
