i had the same problem... You have to hold shift then left click to move forward(moving mouse side to side strafes teh camera) Holding shift and right clicking will move you backward(moving mouse side to side strafes the camera) Also Holding shift and left and right clicking at the same time while moving your mouse side to side will give you a "freelook" from your position Hope this helps ya out!

Try uninstalling and deleteing directories if you cant get it to run from goin start menu> programs> xray> map editor then reinstall it... if you are trying to COMPILE by using xrLC.exe from the bin directory read below... you are running it directly from the directory... go to start menu> run> X:\xrLC.bat (map name) hit enter -------------------------^ ---Space between .bat and map name

Also, I noticed that unlike all the previous experience I've had (namely Hammer in HL one and two, and Doom editors, etc) There are also no 'brush' tools. From reading through the SDK documentation it seems that the entire 'level' other than enities has to be created in Maya... Is this right or am I over looking something?

If every shape and texture has to be made with Maya and PS, noone is going to use the dang thing.

Well it seems (from what I can see) that I was right. If I am wrong, someone please say so :P

The core 'level designer' seems to be nothing more than a placement tool or linking prebuilt terrains and models (Done in Maya) into the level where you pretty much just add enemies, lights, anomalies, etc. The 'entities'.

Which for me is pretty lame. I mean to me, Maya is hard to use and having to export from Maya and then pull it into the level editor is just...a pain in the neck. This editor could have been so much better so you didn't need to go buy some professional modeling program just to make a new level.
