Third-person wasn't originally meant to be in the game (as there were no keys bound to camera changes), meaning that whenever you switch to third person, your character is still facing whatever way he was in first person. I think niphty or ZanderArch had a much more complex, more thurough summary of why this is.

Anyways, it probably can't be changed through .ltx's; if it can, I dunno how.

Actually, there's 3 cameras (that I know of - thanks to reading the Vehicle Mod's info): First Person, Third Person, and Vanity (I used the suggested F1-F3 keys) The Third Person is cam_2, and you can control your character from this perspective (though when you go to Iron Sights or Scope view, it doesn't zoom, and your crosshair vanishes) The Vanity Cam is the one where you can rotate around your character.

Just place these lines in your user.ltx bind cam_1 kF1 bind cam_2 kF2 bind cam_3 kF3

The whole problem with the Third Person view is that no matter which third person view you use, your still aiming at the location you were aiming when you left first person.

Example. You line up a headshot on someone, then turn Third Person Follow (cam_2) and turn around look down. Your player model will look like he is trying to shoot him self in the foot, but if you fired, you'd hit the guy you lined up the headshot on in the first place.

I'm not sure how we'd change that, if anything it'd need SDK to do it.

But Third Person is useful for looking around corners, checking your self out, or rushing past enemies since it unrestricts your view while allowing you to navigate. Sure, you can't fire, but if you are going to run past a few bad guys, you probably weren't going to in the first place.

That's exactly what I use it for, looking around corners and over obstacles that I can't see over in first person mode. Kinda like a limited, tiny recon cam is how I see it.

Or astral projection if you want to get all non-technologically advanced and all.

@AxeMan: We know. The OP stated that. I was saying that it was not originally part of the vanilla, un-modified game, because you have to edit keybindings to "unlock" third-person.
