What do you mean by modding?

Scripting? Texturing? Modelling? Etc...

There is a "Tool List" in the Mod Wiki.

If you don't have a mod yet, you don't have a gamedata folder. Just gamedata.db/s. Here is a link for tools to extract them: http://forums.filefront.com/4342897-post3.html

normally computers won't open stuff like ltx files for some stupid reason.. they can though, all you have to do is tell it to use notepad or microsoft word to open them and it works fine:)

Its not for some stupid reason, its because there are tons of formats out there i can make a text file but name it mytext.x0x and the comp will obviously not know what to open with until i tell it to open with a notepad.

Right click, "open with....", select any text editor. I recommend Notepad++ (google) as it enables syntax highlighting for Lua.
