Hello. The annoying thing is, I just got Stalker as a b-day gift, and it runs fine, even though I'm on vista. the only hitch is, that no matter what I do, it won't save. the error reads as such: the error message says "Can't write file 'c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\stalker-shoc\savedgames\small start....sav'. Error: 'No such file directory'. I got Stalker via steam, so is there possibly a problem related to that?
I don't believe it has to do with the STEAM version, as that's the version I use... That's about all the input I have, maybe someone else knows a bit more about STALKER running on vista?
After careful study, I have come to the conclusion that it is the directory method itself that is to blame. since I run on Vista (and am unwilling to go back to XP), the "documents and settings" directory no longer exists. Sadly, I cannot go into C Drive and simply add the folder there. For some reason, it will shift anything I send to it into users, and it won't appear, period.
You need the latest patches for STALKER on vista (or at least 1.0004) but since you use Steam, you should have the patches.
It's correct that the folders are wrong, but STALKER usually uses the Vista user folders when run under Vista.
Please check you patch version anyway (should be in the lower left corner of the STALKER main menu) and then I'd suggest to call their support, because obviously your STALKER version is not using the correct folders.
The version of stalker I have is v1.0005, so it can't be that. However, it seems the game itself has finally found a proper savedgames file. however, in it's stead, a new problem pops up: It now lists "Permission Denied" as the error.
Is 'My Documents' in the normal location? Or have you relocated it? A lot of games won't save properly if it can't find My Documents.
