Yup, you've probably already heard of the $1.99 (or €1.389 for you europeeans) deal on steam for Shadow of Chernobyl. Well, not being able to pass up a good deal I bought it. Battlefront II also but that's not the point. The point is, I'm having major errors. First when I downloaded the game it gave me this crazy german error, which I searched up and fixed.
However, I can not figure out this one... after fixing the crazy german error, and starting the game, it loads, but its get to a small window in the center of the screen with the game's logo on it, and the console, then just sits there. It doesn't even get past that.
So I need help. What's the problem? Steam? Should I return and just buy the disc? I'm also having problems with Battlefront II so I'm not thinking the game is problematic here...
Can you see anything in the console?
Did you try Validating the files on Steam?
Did you update your videocard drivers?
3. Nvidia Geforce 6200 I updated it earlier last year and since it's such an old card I doubt they've released anything more for it.
Well could you please post the contents of "xray_user.log" located in "WinDrive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\documents\stalker-shoc\logs".
Also I would recommend getting a new video card considering it is quite dated.
Ok first, I am retarded. There were new drivers. I'm testing it out now. I'll give you feedback in a second.

Fuckin urgggh. I have DirectX 9. Should I get 10? Does it work on XP?
I played stalker on my 6200 and xp no problems. I also had to do the increase page file size german error also. Try adding the command lines to a shortcut maybe. Try -gpu_nopure you will probably have to use it anyway for the graphics problem you might encounter. Look up other command lines maybe. Maybe changing the graphics settings in the user.ltx file will help you get into the game. Use windows to search for it. Or maybe the steam version you downloaded is corrupted. Maybe try starting it in dx8. http://www.tweakguides.com/STALKER_9.html xr3da.jpg picture by burger - Photobucket
Thank you all for helping but unfortunately, none of you guys' methods worked. I've contacted steam, with no reply as of yet... gg.
The error is due to an improper installation of DirectX. Just download the latest version of DirectX 9 and that should fix the problem.
