I've read a bunch of Clan forums... I've joined and unjoined clans in other games... I just don't get the point for most of them.

I mean, I've played good games with peeps and have agreed to come back to the same servers to play again. That's the way it is with most people. You find good players who don't camp or cheat, and you agree to play again some time. All without a clan.

I've seen some clans that are worse than the military. You have to follow rank. What do I need someone of a supposedly higher rank for? What do higher ranks do? Tell me what to do? Where to go? Who I can play with and who I can't? Don't we all get enough of that in real life?

If you are just creating a clan to have a group of friends to play with, isn't it better to judge them in a game before they know, so you can see how they really play?

Anyway, I love the game... I have met a bunch of great players. I have found a bunch of good servers that know me and welcome me. What would I need a clan for?

I don't mean this to knock clans down... It's an honest question. What is the point?

The main reason people get into clans is for ladders and league play Our clan plays in the CAL league and it is the basic reason for a clan to compete against other clans. If you like to just play public servers that is your choice. The work it takes to play as a team in a clan match is not easy it takes a lot of practice and hard work. Some clans are far to strict, but that is also a choice for their members to live with. It all should be fun after all it's just a game.

peace

i agree wit zero there aint nuttin like a good clan match specially in a game like sof2,cs,tac ops etc where the team play n tactics in a good clan are aswome but i would only play/join a clan if they were competetive in leagues i aint into clans that are formed just for the sake of it and never enter a league aint see the point in that tbh

Why a clan? That is actually one hell of a question. Someone above said that most clans are involved in leagues and ladders, and that would be the easiest explanation. There are several others though: the most obvious would be that some people have very little self esteem and need outside assurance to validate their existance within the gaming community. At least that is the general idea I have seen posted in numerous forums for numerous games. The concept of 'belonging' to a clan might be where your question is really aimed at tho! If you have no interest in belonging to a clan, then why post here? I am really curious about your question as you posed it. In my uneducated opinion, any relationship is what you make of it. It is 2 sided, meaning that it consists of yourself and those who are to be considered the other part of the equation. In this instance, the clan members. If you do not 'join' things, then a clan would be a meaningless venture. For it would stand for all that you oppose. And, in agreeance with what your post stated, membership in any group does not chnage the pleasure of the game, when played with others who share the same philosophy about the game. But membership in any group CAN enhance the experience. It sets you aside from the rest and gives you some identity, in an otherwise faceless universe (that being the online gaming community.) Membership in a clan can provide you with an outlet, with boundries and expectations that are otherwise left to arbitrary senses of what is or is not proper. And in essence, finding the RIGHT clan can take the gaming experience to a totally different level. BUT ..... only if you are of the mind set that 'belonging' to anything is more than simply having s set of initials in front of your online monikor.

Thank you for the replies.

As I said, I don't mean to knock clans. It was just a question.

The league idea sounds good... I hadn't really looked at the game as a "league-able" activity. That could definately be interesting. I play with a group of peeps on a couple servers, and we play as teams in all the different game types. It is alot more fun when you play with peeps that compliment each others styles to make a kick-ass team. So I do understand.

I have been part of other things as a team member... Hockey and Boxing in college. Even though boxing was 1 on 1, you are still part of a competitive team. And today I am a Union member. I guess I've just always associated Teams and Brotherhood with tangable and real people... not virtual.

I've been a gamer ever since the C64, but usually as a solo activity. Today I have a LAN in my house where everyone gets together every so often for occasional FragFests. But again, if someone takes a cheap shot at you, you walk across the house to him and smack him upside the head. For me, it's hard to imagine a team or clan where you can't do that. Maybe some day I'll take someone up on their recruiting offer... hopefully it will be a realistic group of people.

Woody ur words could be an inspiration 2 everybody. Clans are made for competitive plays and not cuz u like to take over servers. I myself am in a clan but its all for fun. When we have a war we play for real but there's no bitching afterwards IF we lost. And certainly no dissing of the opponent if we win, not even if we are talking about a crackling victory (67-5) or something like that. And about that smacking on the head, well most members of my clan are dutch so i'll visit them if they don't behave :D Come and play with us someday, you'll have fun. This is in no way a recruitement, just a invitation. If u want to join after a few games, i'll pull some strings for ya. :cya:

Clans start getting really fun when you can do voice communication like in Counterstrike. Its good because you know the people in your clan. You can relax and joke around more, its just more fun. Unless you're taking the game way too seriously.

What about being invited to join a clan. You say ok and join, fix your name and then whoosh you never can find them again? But your hoping they'll come back around maybe so you keep playing with the name. Now everyone knows you by your clan name, and you don't want to change it to lose your online buddies or reputation. So your kinda stuck with it unless you change it and start from scratch. I enjoy knowing people and being chatted too.

Clan : a group united by a common interest or common characteristics .

I see a clan as a group of people that you enjoying going online with and hanging out with on your favorite games. A Group of people that you know will be there to have a good time, will not put you down, will most likely always back you up and will be there when you need them.

Also to help with any problems you might be having in real life, you know someone to talk to. You never know. Not all clans are serious, some are, but not all. Some clans do not even require you to do anything but wear there tag, these clans are no fun, but if you want to feel like you belong to something, this is an easy way. But don't just join any clan. Look for the one that you like, and not because they have a cool website, or tons of memebers, but becuase of the people they have, and the way you get along with them in return. This is the way that you will find the best clan/people to hangout with.

Also, when looking for a clan, don't let on that you are looking right away, just hangout on there server, or where the group plays, and get to know the people, and let them get to know you. Show them what you are about, that you can follow there rules with ease, that you can show them a thing or two, tip's and tricks, make that clan want you. Remember too, Patiance is a vertue. To be in a hurry to join a clan. This shows that you want to join for the wrong reasons.

Just be yourself, have fun, and everything will work out for you.

Have Fun, and good luck.
