I use Quark for making SOF maps. Quark supports Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, Hexen 2, Heretic 2, Half-Life, Sin, KingPin, STVEF, Christal Space, SOF and SOF2  So it makes it possible to export maps for example from SOF to SOF2. It also allows to view bsp-files, but no bsp-editing yet :( maybe in the future. It's pretty easy to setup and use (much better than sofradiant!) I don't know GTKRadiant, so I can't compare, but there are worlds between sofradiant and quark.

to be all honest the better program really depends on your skill. the editors made for the sof2 maps are just like any other software that is made for any type of web graphics. which of these are the better program really depends on the person using it. example: adobe photoshop is one of the best photoeditors out there. however if a person doesn't know anything about editing photos or making graphics then photoshop is not their best choice. i myself use psp7, but i started off with microsoft picture it. psp7 is a better program then picture it, but if i had started off with psp7 when i first started into web graphics i never would have learned as far as i have for i would have givin up in fusteration. as far as the editors for sof2 goes. most seem to like sdk radiant. and i have heard many say it was made for sof2. i find that hard to beleive when you won't see sof2 on it anywhere and you have to go in and manuelly change file paths and extract textures and models to folders. sdk goes off of quake III which sof2 is based in. gtk radiant is made for sof2 and it was released by raven. it is alot easier to set up and to get the maps to run in your game. there are a few other map editors out there but i have not looked into any of them. i started off with sdk and couldn't get the map to play in the game. i waited for a new release for a map maker and out came gtk radiant. i have managed to get that going pretty good. as far as which is better it goes back to what your skill level is. if you are a newbie like me ya are better off with gtk radiant. it is far easier to operate and run comes with a help section and several online resources for refferance. if ya are familar with editing 3d online games then sdk might be for you. you do have to go in and do more of the setting up manually and it takes a little more to test your map in game engine. but sdk is more stable then gtk.
