Ok. I've been mapping for years, but I'm kinda new to skinning. Some friends asked so I thought I'd start skinning too. I took a skin that I had downloaded, that I hate, so instead of deleting it I turned the PK3 into a ZIP, and extracted the files keeping folders intact. I then opened the JPG's that I wanted to edit, and completely redrew them. I then saved them as JPG's again in the exact same place and keeping the file name identical. Also I selected the no compression option when exporting as a jpeg. now i realize that skinning this way is cheating, but I thought if i could get the skins to show up like i wanted, then I could go through the appropriate files for the skin and rename everything, Per Fragger's instructions. Here's the problem, the only thing I changed where the Jpeg's and I did not rename them, so the G2skin files and etc should still be pointing to the correct files, but when I zip up the skin keeping folders intact. I rename the ZIP to a PK3, and put it back in the Base/MP folder, the skin doesnt show up for use anymore under multiplayer. If i take my edited PK3 out and replace it with the original, then walla the skin shows up for use again. Am I just crazy, or shouldnt my method for skinning work? if it should work, then anyone know what I'm doing wrong? :(
ya got me stumped. ummm hope you get help. if that doesnt work just make a new guy and paste the skins from the guy you dont like on to the new one, saving the new one as a different name. gl
open the zip and make sure it's packaged right. The best thing is, if you have xp, to right-click the zip and choose EXPLORE from the menu to open it like a regular folder and bypass winzip's stupid interface.
