I have just started mapping but i have problems compiling. I use the new GTKRadiant. When I go to compile it sometimes says that it can't find qe3bsp.bat. I have checked and found that it was actually there even tho it says it isnt  Other times it says 'File creation error' after each stage of the compile (bsp, vis, light). Whats wrong and how do i fix it? Acca :stallard:

have you tried fastvis 1/2 or Fullvis

that should work

then type in console of sofII

sv_pure devmap (name of your map )

Hi there again

Still problems with compiling ? he

well i had problems too and found the solutions

First , make sure that you've select Multipalyer game in your projects settings

Secondo : be sure that they're no leaks !!! very immportant.

thirdo : if youre placing lights be sure that they're not placed in walls or anything else.

If youre using fastvis 1/2 it should work now.

if you're map is big it could take sometime (15 -- 45 min) also let the compiler stop by his own don't interact (go drink a beer).

for ladders : go see www.modsonline.com and select SOFII mapping.

you will see a lot hinds to create ladders , doors and other stuff.

I hope you'll find it.

the one and only SHAGY

Cheers, i went to the site and got my ladders working now

And to compile i have found that i have to go to the bsp menu, click what compile i want, then go into the radiant directory and start the .bat file manually.

Now all i need is to be able to make the sky emit light, ive tried a few things with little success.

Yo there,

I'm glad to hear that everthing works fine.

Sorry i didn't reply earlier but i got sick.

To answer depending light of the sky ?

I just select a texture of skies.

The light it gives is enough and works.

Hi still problems with skies hum

first make a room over the entire map select then the grid to 8 make your room hollow

When the room is still selected choose the sky from your textures select a texture in the blue box with SKY on it.

Be sure that your room is still selected. then press 'S' select Fit. then apply.

it should work now.

Try it and let me now. good luck.

umm shagy does it have to have both a sky texture (eg from colombia) and a blue sky texture (sky written on it)?

heres exactly what i tried: made a box 256*256*256 and made it hollow deleted the ceiling so light could come in (btw does light get into closed rooms from the sky?) put in a dm spawn point textured the walls and floor made the grid 128 and made a box around the room so that it just fit in hollowed this box with the whole box still selected i then put the blue sky texture on it, pressed s and clicked fit then apply. i then did a Fullvis compile without truoble but when i tested the map it was frustratingly pitch black :furious:

Hey dude,

I got my map program from http://www.houndsofhell.com, look under the downloads/utilities section. Here you will find GTK Radiant software to download (11MB).

There is another program that you could use (SDK Radiant I think but I dont know where to get it) which some people prefer but the only differences I know of are that GTK has a very handy 3D camera to move around your map with while you build it; while SDK is supposed to have faster compile times.

For online help you can go to http://www.modsonline.com and check out their tutorials. You could also try http://www.map-center.com.

Hope this helps :)
