Hi,

I've got a AMD Athlon 1.3, 256 RAM, Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB, I'm using windows 2000, and the latest drivers (nvidia, bios and everything updated)

I'm having serious performance problems with SOF2. I've got few FPS, and when I get into the truck in the first mission (Prague) with the machinegun, it's just unplayable (4-10 fps), even with the basic config (all set to LOW detail) and 640x480 resolution.

I know some friends who own the game and have similar machines, and the game runs fine.

It's really weird, cause I think my machine should work well with the game...

Please, help me :(

I have a similar problem. I have a AMD athlon 1700+, 256 RAM, GeForce 2 Ti 64 MB and win 2000. When I play this game, or other games it likes to slow down to a really low frame rate. Ive been trying to figure out what the problem is for over a month now.

The probelm is window 2000 (in my case anyway). When the frame rate slows down, does your hard disk go into overdrive? Becase in my case it does, it just wont stop reading. The problem is windows file checker that makes sure that your computers system files are correct. I wonder if you have ever got a message saying that windows has detected corrupt files and asked to insert the win CD. What happens is that when you play the game, windows scans the hard disk for corupt files and doesnt leave much reasources to play the game.

I think that i have finally sorted out the problem on my computer, but i still have to try sof 2 again. I have formated my drive and reinstalled win 2000 while converting the drive to NTFS format. I installed GTA 3 and it works fine now. I was going to try sof2 , but its late and im tired. I hope that it will work. But this would be the 4th time that i have formated my drive, this time i converted it to NTFS.

Ill tell you what happens as soon as i try it. My advice, dont use win 2000 unless you have to.

Yeah, something like that happens to me, m8. I have tried de-fragmenting the HDs, but it seems as if it had to access to the HD every 20 secs.

If its a win2k problem or not, i'm not so sure, a friend of mine uses winxp and he says sof2 runs fine, and he's got a similar machine.

i also have GTA3 and it works a little bit better than sof2, although sometimes i have low fps. No doubt they're both really demanding games, but i feel i have quite a decent computer.

Please, post your answers as soon as you can, mate, that would help.

cheers

your machine is more than what you need to run this game on high res ( graphics card might be better, but i have a gefroce 2 ti and it runs like a dream on 800x600 and even on 1024x...)

Anyway, i installed sof 2 this morning and it works so wonderfully.

What i did was format the hard disk, install win 2k and upgraded it from the net, installed all the latest drivers. Then i did a system wide backup. just in case i had to go thru this all over again. I also changed the file system to NTFS from FAT 32 while installing win 2k. I then installed the game on drive C (same drive as the OS) before i installed onto a differnet drive.

GTA3 runs like a beut and so does sof 2 in multiplayer. I havent tried single player yet, but my biggest problem was mulitplayer.

But there might be another solution, i read thru the readme file and it said that if you have IPX istalled on your pc, it might slow the game down. Check if you have IPX. And you could always try and disable the system file checker, but i tired and it failed.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q222473

Good luck and i hope that you can solve it without having to format the drive like i had to.

Yo mate

I have installed winXP on my other HD, and surprise, it works much better that on win2000. Same happens with GTA3, it runs well too.

I think the problem is that I have something screwed in my win2000 that makes the game run slow.

I hope I don't have to format win2000, in the meantime I'll use XP just for gaming.

Ta for your help, mate.

i need to get win xp in that case. I have spent all day playing on my 'fixed' pc. Worked like a dream. Then suddenly in GTA 3 it resets my computer when i try to do this one mission. AHHHHHHHHHHH.

Can i just shoot my computer ?

I was hoping to save up and buy a better graphics card, although i just upgraded, now it looks like ill have to buy win xp instead. Are you using home or profesional ?

lol. What Mission. I have a 128mb, 32 Nivida Geforce 2. and it runs, well lets say Fair. When I get down to it and start doing missions, it runs very laggy and choppy, but I fought with it and just kinda got used to it. GTA3 that is. I haven't had the chance to get SOF 2 yet, so I guess I will have to wait and see, Hmmmm. Maybe is should play the lottery more often ,then if I win I could buy all of us Top notch computers to solve our problems. Theres a Idea. :uhoh:

I'm using WinXP Professional, but you can do with any of them, they're basically the same.

Good luck dudes.

PS. ATM I'm in the first mission of Colombia and the games runs very well, I've set the quality of the textures etc. to medium and I can play the game without problems (remember SOF2 is a high demanding game).

sof 2 for now is running fine. Its GTA 3 that slows down a bit. But you do get used to it. Maybe if i lower the graphics and stuff.....naaaaaaaaa.

Im at the start of the jungle in the second mission, (sof 2) and i have the games deafualt for high spec on (high textures, 32 bit and 800x600) and it works very well. MP on the other hand i had to lower it to 16 bit, nice and fast now.

When playing sof 2 mp, type in the consol

/cg_drawfps 1

and it will tell you how many frames per second its doing. I keep around 60 now :D. But in open or complex areas it drops to as low as 14, and that sucks big time. If I had waited 6 months with my graphics card, i could have had a gefroce 3, or even 4 for the same price, but now i have to suffer with my puny geforce 2.

And clone, if you do win big time on the lottery, dont forget you good old buddy, old pal, that you never really knew, just read his posts on the net. I could do with some of that magic your talking about. :D:D:D:d
