I know you can view the motd at any time, but is there a way to get others to view it....say at the start of any particular map? I want to put such a line into my mapcycle so that players will, at the start of each map, get a witty comment regarding the map, and info on which weaponmod is currently in use. anyone know the command?

the command you are looking for is g_motd "your message here" exaple--- map4 { Command "map mp_finca" cvars { g_gametype "tdm" g_motd "^3NO Thermal Or Night Vision Goggles. NO Spectators." scorelimit "50" } } but you should probably leave that set in the server.cfg instead of adding that to your mapcyle. as the mapcycle shouldnt exceed 16.2kb and with all the diffrent messages in it, it will grow very fast. the other option is a .cfg for each map you run. example--- map4 { Command "map mp_finca;exec finca1.cfg;" cvars { g_gametype "tdm" scorelimit "50" } } then in your finca1.cfg this is how it should look example--- wait 5500 ^3This Server is running ds weapons mod on this map wait 1500 ^3You Must not shoot people who are facing a wall wait 1500 ^3download our maps from our website that way you can make diffrent message for each map that you use without using up any mapcycle space. plus it leaves your message of the day free to advertise your website or welcome players. both these methods work well. as this is the way we used to do it on alliesrpg when we were a ver 1 rpm 0.6 server. but they will work just as well in your rocmod server. hope this helps.:)

hmmm Right now mapcycle space isnt critical, although if it get bad i will take your advice and split things onto exec'ed cfgs. The problem is that i dont just want that little motd on the loading screen, I need to know how to make the whole large 10 line motd display, the one you get from typing motd into console. as it stands it only seems to show on first connecting to the server :S If you have a lit that has no actually command in it and just the text, does that just display as text then? or does it have to be set as a message?

Ingame "MOTD" is not a standard command and is from mods like OSP etc. You can't unless you code your own mod which won't be compatible with other mods. Your talking about "ingame" right?

i think what he is after is changing the motd for each map. to simply display info about the weapos mod on that map and stuff like that. he is using rocmod and wants to know how to add multiple line to the message of the day in the mapcycle. this is example of how we used to do it again on a ver 1 rpm 0.6 server. this was set in the server.cfg, but should work in the mapcycle. seta server_motd6 "^3NO Spectators Allowed" seta server_motd5 "^3NO Thermal Or Night Vision Goggles Allowed" seta server_motd4 "^3Close EVERYTHING But SOF" seta server_motd3 "" seta server_motd2 "^3#u" although you may not need the word seta in front as it is in the mapcycle. try it and let me know what happens. :)

hmmm I can change the motd without a problem...the hard part is trying to make it display at the start of each map. the main motd only shows when someone first joins the server, I'd like it to show at the start of each map.

//MOTD On Game Enter set g_motdEnabled "1" // 1=Enable or 0=disabled set g_motdDisplayTime "5" // How long it shows for. This happens when you join the game and are in the map. Longer than this time and it is VERY annoying. // Standard MOTD messages. They show on screen one under the other, centered. seta g_motd1 "^3Welcome to the HOME of the ^&DogSoldiers" seta g_motd2 "^3Visit Our Website at ^1www.^4thedogsoldiers^1.net" seta g_motd4 "^7ADMIN: Bear ^4(bear@thedogsoldiers.net)" seta g_motd5 "" seta g_motd6 "^3Everyone have fun, it's only a game! smilie.gif " seta g_motd7 "^3Please be respectful of others" seta g_motd9 "^3Please watch the language" seta g_motd10 "^1RECRUITING IS A BANNING OFFENSE" 1)When you join the map. The message of the day that comes in with your mapcycle is posted. 2)When you are IN the map this comes up on the screen and stays the alloted time you tell it. 3)This comes from the sof2_roc.cfg from my server. We don't enable it anymore. you see the motd's in the server enough, that you don't need to see this. Need more help ? buzz me here or at my "home".

I wrote a small tutorial using the cfgs from my clan's server. It is in our tech area. It isn't complete but it can get you up and running, creating your own server. I need to finish it and polish it and then publish it out: " Creating roc servers for dummies" sounds like a decent title cause i was the same way when i started.
