Hi, I bought SOF2 back when it came out and played the single player game.Since I only had 56k and could not get broadband back then I shelved it and went on to other games. Now by the grace of the Internet Gods I have finally got DSL in this part of the world and am looking at dusting off the old SOF2 cd case and installing again.I've been looking around and have found a ton of Multiplayer mods out there but I don't know which ones people are playing:confused:What are the best Multiplayer mods out there and which ones are people playing the most? Are there any Total conversion out there maybe WW2 mods or anything?and are there lots of servers? Thanks for the help, Pig :cya:
there are total conversions like Navy Seals, but i never seen a server using it
Vast majority of servers run OSP so get that one first.
The new mod is cool sof2eXt
Ok, thanks for answering that question.I went ahead and reinstalled it and have played in a few servers but most I have found everyone just runs around willy nilly shooting at anything that moves. Are there any servers out there where its more team oriented? or is there a mod that makes it so you have to play as a team more? I know DM and CTF are popular but I enjoy a more Team play style of game play. Thanks, Pig
Most of the mentioned mods are adminmods... and they are mainly created for the admin's sake, not the user (although users like stuff like medals at the end of the map, especially when they are in the list).
There are a few mods out there that focus on the player (like Jeel Spec Ops and Goldrush) but somehow the community isnt playing them very much (or should i blame the admins who create/setup the servers?).
I am the head developer of the Goldrush mods, and in the latest public version (1.3) we already have some stuff that make teamplay even more important (even in gametypes like CTF). For example, Goldrush 1.3 has an option with which an admin can make a player who is carrying a gametype-item (flag, briefcase, bomb) move more slowly than the other players (he has to carry extra stuff). This way teamplay becomes more important...
And Goldrush 1.4 (not released yet) will have some cool adminfunctionality as well (some even integrated in the gametypes, so that there doesnt need to be an admin around to get it working).
[COLOR=DarkRed]Well here is my 2cents. Being an owner of a sucessful Sof2 server, I have found this to be the problem with mods. The downloads ! When I first started the server around 2 years ago, it was a basic server with no mods or custom maps. The server was full around the clock. Then people would bitch about the server getting old. I would add a new map pack, setup an ftp server so they could download it fast, and what do ya know ? Maybe 20 people out of 1000's per week that visited my server downloaded them. Then those 20 people would bitch because the server is dead ! You just can't win.
Mods like the one above are awesome. The problem is people are too incompetent to download them because most of the time they try to download the stuff through the game, and they see 3 hours to download something and say "Forget it, i'll go somewhere else".
RocMod, in my opinion is by far the best mod out there. I have paid for mods to the mod to get what I want. Arnnor has combined enough content for the player, like 12 different medals at the end of the game, good sounds if you know how to set them up, amongst other things. The admin side is excellent. I have tried admin mod by solus, OSP, Sneaky Mod. On the client side I have tried GoldRush. Gold Rush is by far the best mod out there for the players... but again when I tried to use it .. no one would download it !
So I have opted for a paid for RocMod, custom to my wants and needs. If you have the cash, you can get anything you want in a mod, but it needs to be small enough that people will download it through the server. All total when some one connects to my server, they have the client side arou 250kb and several small enhancements totalling another 150 kb. I do NOT have any custom maps, for the reason mentioned above.
In conclusion, people need to get educated in this game. They need to learn what a mod is, where to download it http://www.soffiles.com and how to extract the stuff. If this would happen we all would be enjoying the game a hell of a lot more.
NobleMan Server is 24Hour T3Speed TDM http://noblecomputing.com

In my humble opinion, people don't play Goldrush because they're not interested in cooperation. Most people care only of their own stats, team be damned. This also holds true in some of the new games that are based on team work, which is why I end up back with SoF2 playing DM. I hate thinking I have team mates to back me up just to discover some little dweeb wants to get his stats up and has no skills to survive DM so he plays TDM or CTF or whatever team gametype so other players take some of the heat off him (or her ;) ). How I long to play on a TEAM. But given the current attitudes of most players I have played with so far, I'll continue solo play. I can trust me.

Yes, i recognize that, but that doesnt mean that this is the case on all servers. There are players out there who care about teamplay :nodding:
But my last comment was meant as an example... Goldrush 1.4 will be HIGHLY configurable. That means admins can use the new stuff they like, and disable the stuff they dont like... some servers will use settings that make the gameplay very realistic, some servers will be fast and furious, or ofcoz a combination of both, etc.
I think (hope) Goldrush 1.4 will be special... most mods dont offer much stuff that affect gameplay, just some adminfunctionality, (sound)tokens and medals. Goldrush 1.4 will have those things too, but we will have stuff not seen in any other mod :naughty:
It is very well possible that 1.4 will be released somewhere in July (version 1.3 was released in June 2003 so its about time too). Buu, our other coder is going to move back to his homecountry (he gets a good job there) and he wont be available for a few months. And i can use a nice break myself (modding is hard work and i dont wanna spend my whole summer behind my pc)... we still have plenty of stuff on our wishlist, but some of them will have to wait till 1.5...
