Since I'm not contributing constructively to the commulity anymore I'll try some Rants & Raves for a change.

SCREENSHOT QUALITY How come people take time to make a skin or a map or maybe just a PotD ... AND THEN PRESENT IT using low-quality screenshots ??

BRIGHTNESS Most screenshots you see on soffiles.com (90% ?) are submitted as raw screens from SOF2 - and thereby too dark ! A picture taken from the game is NOT gamma-corrected the way it is when you see it IN the game. You have to correct brightness (at least) afterwards to make it viewable. I've even seen SOF2 movies that were only watchable at night with all light turned off :(

AA&AF Most screenshots look like they were taken on a PC that runs with a 4 year old graphics-card. No AA and no AF :( It's amazing how people can even stand playing the game with those jagged edges on everything ! I know that SOF2 has no native support for AA/AF, but your graphicscard driver surely does and have a way to force SOF2 to use it !

If you do not know what 4xAA/8xAF can do for you just look here:

http://photobucket.com/albums/v130/infrequent/sof2screens/?action=view&current=AAAF.jpg

Notice the difference when you look at the edges of the buildings etc. ;-)

YOU MIGHT SAY You might says it's no big deal - it's only screenshots.... WAKE UP ! You might have made a brillant map or a nice skin .... but you will loose users if you cannot present it well. Many people will simply not download your product if it is represented by a screenshot in lousy quality. They will (subconsciously) think that the quality of your screenshot represents the quality of you product even when that is not the case.

My thought exactly, hence this News Item.

There are also a number of screenshots sent in with profanity all over them, these also are useless.

I agree to m8, With my map SS i will always load the map through 'devmap map name' so i can get a few nice SS without the 2D crap on screen. And then i will go onto photoshop and correct the brightness/contrast etc. As you said what's the point of spending time on something if the SS you upload with your files are just going to be crap.

PS.....My gfx card is an olden but i try and get the best from what i have, Not everyone has high end pc's ;).

Same here, I always put resolution and settings etc to the highest (even though I then have 12fps :P ) when making screenshots

also fraps takes a SLIGHTLY lower quality screenshot than the in game screenshot capture =D

but... on the other hand, i think it takes a screenshot at whatever brightness setting you have in the game, so you wont have to adjust it after (except change it to a jpg of course)

*dances*

i did. fraps is great for taking screenshots, because it uses your current brightness settings, and not the very dark sof2 default.
