:Python:Hello. I had a question. I do not know much about hosting servers of any kind. What I do know is you need dedicated server files. I was searching around. I only found them for linux.. There has to be one for XP if someone does find xp can you please show me how to run one. I just want to run one so my cousin and I can play. (He's in Spain)
Also I tried Sof2Runner but it does not seem to work correctly. I dont know how to upload mods to it. I know you guys are very helpful help a bro out!:bows:
i would like to add this: because what i'm actually trying to do is what we knew someone has done before.. he hosted a server off his computer just using the game not sof2 runner. only he had rocmod set up on it and he had it set up for sysop/adm, etc. So he basicly had complete control over it and had all the same options as you would a normal rented server. But we lost touch with him a while back and have no clue how he did it.. Any help would be much appreciated
There are no dedicated files for windows XP, you simply require the files that come from your sof2 installation. sof2runner in my opinion is a good tool but not very well documented or user friendly. There is another way to set up a server on xp with your mod etc, i will explain below how to do this and keep it completely seperate from your current sof2 directory. OVERVIEW ---------- In short we are going to copy and paste your sof2 directory and create a batch file containing a start script to boot the server into action. STEP 1 ------- Copy and Paste your complete sof2 directory to a familiar location like you desktop, this will duplicate all files within that directory and make a 2nd copy Go into your newly created SoF2 directory and delete any files that are not standard to sof2, you only want to keep the files that come with the installation CD's, This means no additional mods / maps you may have downloaded should be present (can add them back in later) STEP 2 ------- Now that you have a fresh, standard version of sof2 you can go ahead and add the serverside files for your chosen mod. (unpack them to root of your new sof2 directory, where /base and /pb are etc...) STEP 3 ------- Create a batch file. (a .bat file in simple terms is a script telling your computer what to do next.) Open Notepad Copy and paste the text below: text : SoF2 Server Script @echo off title MyServer echo SoF2 Start Script :TOP echo Starting Server.... start /wait /min SoF2MP.exe +set sv_pure 0 +set dedicated 0 +set bot_enable 1 +set fs_game rocmod +exec server.cfg +set net_port 20100 echo Server Stopped! Restarting Server!.... goto TOP Now click "File" and then "Save As" Navigate to your newly created sof2 directory In the filename box save the file as SERVER.BAT and click "Save" Be sure to include the .BAT at the end of the filename and that you save the file in the root directory alongside sof2mp.exe. * You may need to change some of the start commands like fs_game if you mod type is not rocmod. STEP 4 ------- Place you mapcycle and server.cfg in you new sof2 directory. Now you can go ahead and start your server... Simply double click on the SERVER.BAT file you created and search for your server ingame or use the /connect command in the console. -------------------------------- Routers and firewalls... If you are behind a router (ie: Wireless or on a 2nd pc/network) then you WILL require to open ports on your router to allow others to access your server, regardless if you see it in your local list your server will not be viewable to others whilst ports are blocked. Visit below for more information and guides on ports PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall ----------------------------------------- Hope this was of some help to you :-)
I love you, i'm trying right now.:)
no problem, hope it helped :-)
I'm following the steps and its very user friendly. Haven't run into any problems yet
Alright well i followed everything exactly as you said.. i clicked on the baatch file and it opened up my game.. but i dont get what you are suppose to do from there.. i tried opening going to create local server but it never works for me , once it loads the console for the server my cursor sticks in the middle of the screen and i can never get it to move so i have to use task man to end it.. i tried once it opened up the game to look for the server on the server list but i dont see it... so i figured maybe my port forwording reset so i went into my router settings and set it to SOF2 2100 to 2100 UDP then allow but i got nothing out of that.. what am i doing wrong? The dos last says before opening up the game "Starting server...."
Any help at all?
If you see "Starting Server" then all is fine and your server should be up... You should see your server appear in both you "Local" list and the "internet" list if you have configured your router correctly. the batch file should load you into the game on your first map in the mapcycle, you can play as the server or open a 2nd sof2 and connect to the server as a player. *you will need 2 cdkeys for this...."
I dont see it in local or internet.
