Sidearms seem to be effectively useless. What is the point of having a last resort weapon if you can't switch to it after shooting off your primary? I find it so annoying that it automatically reloads your weapon and you can't do anything to stop it. :banghead:
I believe there's an option to turn auto reload off in the settings. Try looking through the menus again and see if it is turned off. When it's turned off you won't reload if you hit the fire key when you've got an empty magazine in the gun, saving you valuable time that could save your life. Most of the time it's better just to switch to another weapon if you don't have any cover to safely reload in.
Looked all over the settings page again and didn't find it. :uhm:
Well you obviously didn't look hard enough. :)
I didn't make it!
Well if your talking about the pistol it is a very effective weapon if used properly, the m119a1 can be an excellent weapon for sniping a guy behind a box at range also conserves your rounds for primary weapon. Try running around just using your pistol for a game and you'll see wot a valuable weapon this can be if used wisely :D
well pyro ....let me see you come to my server and use the pistol ...before you know it ..you would be 4/24 and screaming how useless it is. i have found with a proper bind that you can go from your primary to your secondary weapon, which on most weapons, could go from ak to uzi which is a good switch
Your sidearm is usually used for emergencies only. If you've talked to any soldiers in real life they'd tell you that you'd probably be dead if you're ever caught with a pistol only (that is if you're even lucky to be issued one). It's a last resort weapon. You really have little to no chance of survival if you're pinned down. That's why the US army doesn't equip every one of its soldier with handguns. It would simply be a waste of money and it would give the enemy more weapons to loot from corpses.
Now I know SoF2 isn't 100% realistic, but it does contain a few realistic references and in this case the handgun is pretty closely represented. If anything the game is actually more generous in its effective range and accuracy. On top of that, also remember that most players use body armor almost 99% of the time. When all these things are factored in, yes the sidearms of SoF2 are pretty weak.
If you ever find yourself short on ammo and you're one of the few alive on your team, simply walk to a corpse and grab a half-used assault rifle or sub machinegun instead of whipping out the pistol. I know you might think it's dumb that the game even has pistols to begin with, but if you're a good shot with them they can still be useful against lesser skilled players.
PS: Do you play on real damage servers or normal damage? I know some people who absolutely hate real damage, but I enjoy the added realism of it. The sidearm is usually far more effective in real damage than normal damage, so you may want to give it a try if you haven't.
I don't get that option in single player.
oh ....well that is because ...i don't think it is a single player option ..i think everybody assumes multiplayer around here..LOL
Oh, I don't play multiplayer anymore, single player is more realistic, especially with some of the realism mods out there... :uhm:
