Negative reviews! Got ya there :P

You've probably read more negative 'reviews' than positve ones. Well: prepare yourself cause i'm going to make a huge difference. People who talk bad about this game are probably comparing it too much with SOF2 (no game can compeat with that you should've known that) or they have probably not a strong machine so you can't see the amazing graphics. I'm first going to do a little review about the singleplayer cause in my opinion you need to start playing that before multiplayer.

First of all I was a bit down that there were so many outside and nature maps. I didn't want BF2, I wanted Soldier of Fortune. But after I played them a little I was very pleased because of the great details. I'm playing at a 19" at 1280X1024X60 with my Nvidea Gforce 7800GT 512MB and I can't remember a game which was more beautiful than this one. If you switch firemode you see Thomas flipping the switch on the gun. And ofcourse there are many many more animations. After many outside maps I was finally arrived in a inside map. It reminded me of Finca in SOF2. While writing this review I came till the Garage level. The gore is fantastic. I have no clue why there are so many complains about that. Ofcourse a pistol can't shoot off a leg but this is Soldier of Fortune and that isn't new to the 3rd game! What's wrong with having this exaggerated gore? I started playing SOF because you were able to seperate arms and legs. If I could change two major things to the singleplayer it would be a health bar (I have no clue if health fills up after you've been hit a few times) and i'd like to safe whenever I want and not only when I reach a checkpoint. Pretty annoying to play some parts six times because you die at a hard part. Although checkpoints get used too. The invirement is nice too. You can push barrels etc and you see plants and curtains moving and the glass doesn't break at one time like SOF2mp.

And now about the multiplayer because that's where most of the people bought it for. You shouldn't compare the multiplayer to SOF2mp too. It's way less featured than SOF2 mp especially with SOF2 mods. You don't have a health bar here either. I think your health fills up when you aren't hit in a while. So you can only die when having alot of damage at a specific ammount of time. The most stupid mistake is in my opinion that you don't have a chat. What multiplayer game has no chat?!?! It's not only about shooting eachother it's nice to talk with people ingame, have a laugh or complimenting someone for a nice shot. Hopefully this will also be fixed very soon in a patch. Oh yeah, my compliments for releasing a patch that soon Cauldron/Activision! No sarcasm there. One more negative point with the multiplayer is that you cannot play a level on your own. You have to be with two players. Pitty cause I wanted to check all the weapons and maps first but I couldn't because I got my @ss shot every few steps. The multiplayer gore is very good too. I was also hoping for a Cauldron Offices map like Raven offices in SOF2MP but there aren't many multiplayer maps (yet).

You should definately buy the game if your pc can handle it. You don't need a card like mine but if you play on lowest settings it isn't much fun in my opinion. I didn't expected this to be perfect, but it's definately good enough especially with patches coming soon.

Look I host 2 SOF2 servers, Run a Clan and have done SOF2 Modding for 2 years. I think I got a good grasp on SOF2 MP Game play something that Caldron should've looked into before hand. All in all Single Player was Ok to me I did adapt to it. To me Payback MP has nothing to offer unless they patch it. I don't need to reapeat all the MP issues there's alot of them some are MP Basic. So until then Single Player is the only Good thing about Payback. I didn't spent my money for a Single Player game or did I after all?

Well we couldn't possible agree with eachother there. I didn't expected it to be anything like SOF2 in the first place except for the gore. The only thing is, I too say mp isn't fantastic - to call it that way - but there are some positive points. I like simple Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch games with hours of frag fun and gore and SOF2 + SOF3 offer me that although SOF3 needs some extra (with patches probably) to come near the hours I spent with SOF2.

Agree with Rammel. It's a shame though that only 12 players can join. This MP will be great with 25 players in one server, fragging everyone in sight.

Rammel, although I understand what you are saying about comparing sof2mp with Pay Back MP, still, there are so many things missing there that are the basics of an mp game. Apart from chatting, there are no dedicated servers, you cannot see your ping on the server list, no video options etc. These things, for me are unacceptable.

On the other hand, due to the basics of these missing features, I believe that Cauldon was not given enough time to develop the PC version properly. As these things are so basic, I am convinced that they will be added to the new patch, as Cauldon has responded to our emails.

"We are really sorry that you are disappointed with the game. We can assure you that closely watch reviews and comments on forums and that we will prepare an update of PC build with many improvements."

So, lets just wait before killing off the game!

Well, curiosity got the best of me and I bought it. I've been playing the SP missions and I've been having fun. The missions are short and straightforward. There's no way to get lost or stuck, because the game always points to your next mission. I have to say that even though it's a value title, it's not that bad. Yes, it looks unfinished and unpolished. Characters look like ventriloquists when they speak (they dont move their lips), you can only run in a straight line, etc. I think if they release the SDK or even the source code (we should be so lucky), people could make the game work more like a PC game. I agree, the game is not a worthy sequel, but it's not the piece of crap everybody says.

Dont read this posters long winded post, the game is garbage, looks like garbage, and plays like garbage. I have a computer more than double as fast as the poster, and the game still looks like crap. Its fun in multiplayer for a while, but in the end, a $3000 gaming rig cant make shit shine!
