I've been making a new artillary weapon and I've hit a snag. I'm useing the omegexplode classlabel cause i wanted it to have the tall wave instead of the shockwave. I managed to reduce the blast radius but it does no damage. I've looked in the Odf and in the original omega explode file it says the damage base is 600 and that's what mine is set to as well. Anyone know why it's not doing any dmage? Alos does anyone know if you can apply different shield textures to different ships?
You can't have different shield textures for different ships without editting the source code, a lot of modders including myself have tried and failed to achieve ship specific shields.
With the shock wave are you sure it is hitting the target, cause the sprites can sometimes be misleading and so the wave sprite maybe hitting the target but the wave weapon isn't. It is just an idea, it is odd that one that seems to be simular to the stock one isn't haveing any effect.
omega explode? Wasn't that used in Armada 1?
If I remember rightly, that was used in the cut scene at the end of the very last mission. (A bit like the "flee the incredibly large explosion" scene in "Return of the Jedi")
I think it was designed for looks only and was NEVER meant to cause damage. (I think there's a bit in the "Big book of modding" about this)

Sorry, I know this is off topic, but couldn't you just make shields into a special weapon, so hence they could be different ?????

That was tried, but never done sucessfully, well, it was done once by a modding team, never they had to use the corbomite reflector classlable and so while it looked like hull tight shielding and indeed it visually worked like shields only appearing when impacted, it reflected weapons fire rather than absorbing it, which was a problem.
edit: if you can find a way around this please let me know, but I doubt it is possible.
@ Adam, I recently found this solution in the fighters in the SWFC mod. It was for a problem I was having with a weapon not doing the damage I wanted. Just add a second weapon with an invisible effect that does what you want. In other words, make the visible effect with the one that best displays it (omegexplode), then make an invisible weapon that does the damage (shockwave). Make sure they both fire together. This is no prob with normal weapons, but you might have trouble with specials (like if it's toggled, instead of automatic). Make sure the time/speed/duration for both match and when they fire, you'll see and "feel" what you want. @ Paul and Ryan, I'd say the same thing for the shields. Layer the normal shields (invisible) with the special shields (visible). Then make the normal shields take damage while the specials do nothing (no reflection). Does this help?
I can do the invisible thing. I think the explosion was designed to only affect units that wern't controled by the ai or a player. Cause I played on a map where a bunch of non player controled starbases attacked a borg omege containment station and when it explded it took all the star bases with it but none of the player ships were harmed. What do you need to see the game code. I hacked before I started modding maybe I could have a look around.
