is it illegal to edit a original armada 2 sods then put it on this site even if i give them credit im not changing the shape of the ship just what color it is. I am making a mod called Recolored ships were all the ships are colors like purple orange and green instead of gray.
Also i am having some trouble editing the sods with a unregiastered milkshape program i can only get ventures to change to any othe color without half of the ship disappearing. I cant even get incursion class to change into anything also.
also i just dont undertand all the legal stuf with mods and stuff like that. If i make a mod with ships from this site do i have to get permission from the maker or do i just give them complete credit for the ship.
I've been modding stuff beyond Armada for 15 years and technically any modded file is still based on the company's original file but since folks are giving this stuff away, not profitting from it, there is no foul. The reality is that companies like Activision know that mods keep their games popular long after most are gathering dust on a shelf. That equals more $$ for them. If you modify something enough like a TGA image it is YOUR creation. They put the danged sod editor in A1 for some reason didn't they?
This business of using sods or whatever other have created and given away free should be a no-brainer. Some people get uptight if you use something that you have re-done Why? That is silly. Who cares if you get permission or give credit? Are some people vain enough that they NEED to see their screenname on a web site forever and ever? I could care less if anyone uses my stuff in their releases and doesn't give credit or ask permission and say so in eac thing I release. Put it in perspective.
BTW- you can use other programs to change TGA files for color and such.
okay thanks but are the programs free and what are they called?
For TGA editing I use the freeware that came with my scanner for color and shape changes. I like one of those better than Paintshop Pro which I have.
thanks
