I'd just like to let anyone who's interested know that I am working towards completion of my first major A1 mod. This mod will include : Borg tactical shipyard- Tactical Cube Tactical Sphere Possibley a mobile transwarp gate (i'd like to see what people think of this) Federation temporal shipyard- Buildable premonition Sovreign Mark II Klingon Temporal Negh' Var (not currently accounted for) Romulan stealth bird (similar to the warbird except it's undetected by the tachyon detection grid, also not accounted for) Possible expansion of dominion, cardassian, son'a, breen, and ferengi ships possible integration of dominion, cardassian, son'a, ferengi, and breen into one or many of the already playable races It will also include the addition of several new technologies, which include a perfect cloaking device, chronoton shockwave and possibley more. i'd like to see what people think.. i know A1 is kind of a dead subject but i prefer it over A2 and in my opinion it's more fun to mod because there's more to add. Also if anyone has any additions/suggestions i'd be glad to here them and give credit where it is due

A mobile Traswarp gate - really only good for the human players as the computer won't use the transwarp gate to begin with. As this is your first mod, I would encourage you to spend a little more time on the pen and paper side (i.e., the planning side). One of the challenges with modding is to maintain balance. For example, if you add three borg ships what will you add to the feds, Romulans and klingons to balance the additional strength of the Borg. A good exercise in modding A1 is to first make some or all of the hero ships buildable and to bring in select ships (say from A2) to help round out the fleet. I see you have started this. Now consider this, if a player makes a fleet of premonitions does it give them an unfair advantage. If it does, then what is the countering strategy for the enemies. What unique ships and or capabilities do the "bad guys" get. Hopefully, you get my point. Romulan stealth bird that isn't detectable by the Tachyon Detection Grid = Romulan Warbird with the Shadow's Phase Cloak. Be cautious here as if the special cloak can never drain, then this enemy can't be found and defeated. Likewise, if you remove the Tachyon Detection Grid from the game and allow cloaked ship to have a real advange you will run into the same problem. Anyways, good luck on your first modding project. Keep at it, try out new things to see what you like or don't and remember...it's you mod...so have fun with it.

Good luck with your first mod, as Pepperman mentioned, be careful with that cloak as the game will never end if you can't find the hidden AI.

On my opinon I personally disagree that A1 can do more then A2. Only 4 races vs. 14 races. 1 resource vs. 3 resources. No Planets vs. Planets. Limited vertical movement vs. Alot of vertical movement. In A2 the player's ships(AI) will use special weapons and can control some movement.

Don't get me wrong I still like A1 and sometimes it just has a feel too it that A2 doesn't have. I'll find myself going back and playing A1 every once in awhile. Also the single player campaign can't be touched. It was awesome.

A mod to it today will really improve it.

thanks for the input. I've been doing a little research and i've decided to expand the breen a little more. I've also been toying with the idea of integrating each minor race with a major race. for example: the romulan starbase could build breen and romulan construction ships, the federation base could build dominion and fed. construction ships, etc....

Completly true, it can be very annoying wiping out the entire AI just to have a scout screw you in the end

More races can be added to A1...but i agree they can't be accessed from the IA menu. As far as planets most everybody agrees they are pointless to NO END, persoanlly i know of at lest 5 modders who liked the way they were in A1 nice background effects. While i do not like A1 strict 2d plane it can be edited a lil more but im not to big a fan of Vertical combat seeing as its quiet easy to get around. In A1 any special assigned to a ship is used...all the time i know seeing as ive added weapons and the AI uses them as well. Agreed on movement though

Glad to hear it and i completly agree hopefully i can get some updates of the ones im doing......but its slow going since its just me on 3 mods lol :D

Anyway as far as THIS mod goes it really is a good idea...but watch all your temporal uses can't really see the klingons using temporal tech. I can see them building a heavily armed MOFO but not too much temporal stuff...as far as the romulans Pepperman did a model a while back called the tal shiar warbird....fits into the role of a 2nd warbird perfectly. Looking forward to seeing some further updates

the klinong temp. ship was my first idea but i'm not sure it's the right direction... perhaps something that kills crew? it just seems like they have enough "crew killing" weaponry, IE the ion storm, ion cannon, commando team... etc...

Alright, after tedious hours of mesh making, i've finished the breen ship. All it needs are nodes (i really hate the nodes... is there a program that makes this easier? I suppose the Storm 3d editor can be used to move them but that's a very painful process for me....lolz i should just go to sleep i'm tired...why am i going on about this? What are we doing here? what is the meaning of life? The answer is 42 my friends. :sleep:) Oh and here's a pic of it without textures and here's one with textures, once again, i'd love to hear people's opinions:

Well some of the blackyness on the last screenshot is iffy but it looks fairly nice although I was never really into the Dominion War.
