Hi all. I have a possibly simple question to ask. I want to copy an SOD and have it use 1 texture different from the original SOD. Example: SOD uses texture 1 & texture 2. Copied SOD would use texture 1-a (a slightly modified version of texture 1) and texture 2. Is this possible?

Edit: I don't have any modeling programs on my computer. Is it possible to edit using a text editor or another program?

Not 100% sure what your end goal is.

1.) If you copy the SOD and rename it (so you have the copied SOD and the original SOD in the same directory), it will use the exact same textures as the original SOD. In order to modify the texture the copied SOD was pointing to you would need to import it into a modeling program, change the texture being referenced for that part of the model, and re-export the SOD.

This really isn't as scary as it sounds. You could download the SOD importer (I think through one of the stickies in this forum), then import the model into milkshape (which is free), go to the materials tab and find the materials that use the old "texture 1" and change them to point to "texture 1a", then use the SOD export plugin available for milkshape to re-save as a SOD.

2.) If you want to use the copied SOD in a directory the original SOD is not present in, all you have to do is modify "texture 1" to suit your needs. It's already mapped to the SOD, so any changes you make to the texture will show up the next time the SOD is loaded in-game.

Hope that helps!

If it's a stock model Milkshape (with the SOD importer) will do it, if it isn't it won't as the SOD importer only imports stock models. A hex editor can do what you want. There was a similar post to this just the other day. I recommend contacting the Starfleet Kid, whom actually runs A2Files if it's a non-stock model.

if you have a hex editor you can use the open the sod and manually change the texture name.

cmc5818: Using a hex editor is the quickest way to do what you're suggesting. If the two textures are the same (say a version that's a hero ship with a registry printed on, and the other a blank), then changing the name of the textures in the .SOD using a hex editor only takes a couple minutes.

If you can send me the textures and .SOD via e-mail with a quick description of what you have in mind, I can set it up for you. My e-mail address can be found in my forum profile.

All you had to do was to read this thread which is only a few days old. ;) http://forums.filefront.com/st-a2-modding-mapping-editing/416382-change-sods-texture.html
