that does sound interesting freyr.. it also seems a slightly better way of performing combat... certainly the distances involve leads towards missile duels even in trek, until closing to range for other weaponry to engage.

also helps that armada has a point defense laser special...

Is there a way to lower the accuracy of the point defense laser? It would help add to the realism of combat, you cant get them all.

I feel the same way. I wanted to see what could be done to make it more realistic. If I remember correctly, there's a limit to how many projectiles it will stop, but I don't think you can set it to "miss" any.

No, the point defence laser hits everything it can do when its active. I would imagine that you would just give a light ship one pdl and a Glorious Heritage ~8 of them, then likewise with the weapon loadouts.

Adding comparatively short ranged energy weapons in addition to the missile armament would prevent you getting stuck in a missile duel which is the only drawback of this combat model.

Shortening the pdl range would probably be the other thing to do, as it would mean that ships would need to be placed fairly close to each other.

Another thing I would like to see is the use of EW, A2 has several weapons that could be used quite creatively for electronic warfare but I have yet to see anybody use them.

For example, you have the card and rom sensor disablers and you could also use the holographic special on the Incursion to great effect. For example, you have a fleet thats outnumbered, you could set frigates to appear as Seige Perilous class ships to present the appearence of a task force with much higher power.

Or, the reverse. You want people to come into close range but they are sensible and keep checking your fleet composition with sensor drones. You could conceal your Glorious Heritage as frigates until they close to close range.

Obviously, you would want a short limit ~60 secs on these, but dedicated sensor drones with cloaking devices and EW would make for some quite interesting games.

sounds like the footprint magnification system from season 1. they lit the maru up like a christmas tree, restors go chasing it thinking its rommie, rommie pops up from out the sun and blows them away.

didnt work against the balance of judgement though... it wud be cool to see something similar

Actually the majority of what you suggested here has been encorporated into Parallels quite sometime ago. :lol:

Mostly I've done my own weapons. High Guard ships have short medium and long range missiles as well as smart missiles. The Smart missiles are very accurate the rest are less so. There are also AP cannons and two types of Attack Drones. Only GDFs will have point defence lasers. It should be noted that all these ships are being released for Armada 1 not A2 and so would require, I suspect, some odf work to function. Rod.

Intriguing. the weapons sound good, and another good reason to download. sounds like the ones i have will be being replaced with the weapons you've done. Rod, the ones you sent me worked fine for a2, with the exception of the slipfighters, which as we found was the physics file the odf referred is part of a1, but not a2
