Been playing around with the user interface buttons lately. Thought since my build buttons are now going to be transparent, I'd find out what I could do with the other buttons which bug me so much. I dislike pictograms which do not have a meaning which is instantly clear to anyone in any language. I went with English because it is my native tongue, although it would be really easy to make up a set in HocheDeutsch or Francais. Here is what I have so far.

Two things I think would make them look better are: 1) Have the lighting reversed, so the active button is bright and the others are dimmed. I haven't yet figured out to how to do this. 2) Maybe change the font and the font size. Currently I am using MicrogammaDBold at a setting of 96 because I made these as 256 x 256 tgas and then shrank them to the appropriate size of 64 x 64.

If anyone wants a set of these, which are all I have done at the moment, or has a suggestion as to how to make them better, please PM me and I will send you a copy. They aren't hard to do and I will send along instructions on how I did them. Maybe you can come up with something far better. to share with the rest of us.

I'd keep the old ones honestly, they look too out of place. Have you tried icons instead?

I am with the wing-head on this one :). Nice idea but the many small letters would distract me. Different icons, on the other hand, may work. I liked the transparent ones better. Much better.

They look cool, like TOS FED bouttons. Hold on to them and when I get som time to work on the TOS mod of mine I'll get them from you to add them in.

Well, actually I disagree with this. I'll agree they don't work at the moment because they look out of place but as starfox says they would work if the rest of the GUI suited them. They would be right at home in a TOS GUI.

This is just the first version. A proof of concept if you will. I just wanted to see if it could be done. I think I'll work them a little more and see if they can be done better.

I have an A2 with Compact Clear installed and I really like it. All game GUIs are very intrusive by design. Compact Clear goes a long way towards reducing this intrusion significantly. Compact Clear and Project Blue were the inspiration for these buttons. The stock buttons function adequately, but they really are not "Star Trek" enough for me anymore, ya know?

Actually, I like them :p They're very TOS-ish in that incarnation though, but it's not a bad thing...we need more things like that ;) Unless you want a sad Scotty.
