Thats why we have Easy, medium and hard. Easy should put up a reasonable fight against a learner, medium should be a challenge for the average person and one hard AI should at least be inconvenient someone like me when we go through it like a bandsaw.

I haven't played this yet because in most mods 7 hard AI's last ~20 mins against me, however given the comments on the AI I am defiantly going to give it a go.

You don't think I can do it? I am sure Joel wouldn't mind recounting what happened the first (and last) time the A2files staff played a vs game in stock 1.1. =p

How come no body mention reducing the build time and cost of the ai ships. Just slowly crank that up to a level you feel comfortable with. Give ai really slow load time till your get good, then lower it.

Freyr I'd appreciate your input, I can beat the hard AI on a fortress mapwith other opponents interfering.. 1v1 though it nails me good and proper.

build times aswell are being altered for the lower levels, hard is just as I want it though.

Thanks guys - in particular Achilles and Joelteon7 I did not expect all this - I see I was not entirely alone. I did use the AoW maps, and now have not yet finished the first game.... 3 hours+++ The Infinite moons are just what I needed and dilithium delivery is much faster. I actually built 3 X 16 Excaliburs which were destroyed by the time I reached the enemy base (meta...) at opposite corner of map. I left my base with about 100 turrets with 4 constructors continuously replacing them, as the fleet enemy fleet were selectively knocking them out. I am now rebuilding my fleet. Just one 'criticism', the excaliburs are too big and so need careful placing of the turrets otherwise they get stuck inside the base. Also they seem to have difficulty 'repairing' at the primary base. Please don't get me wrong I am really enjoying this mod. I will try and make my excaliburs smaller having checked out I can do this in the odf file. Thanks for all the other tips - but boy are the enemy fleets relentless. I estimate I need about 5 x 16 excaliburs ( and more bases for crew) and will try an enemy hit again. The closest I have come to this was in Armada I - where I once played (as borg) for 2 hours against the organic things ( cannot remember the name, but look like giant amoeba) and they kept coming and coming. The trick here was not how many cubes I had but how many phasers I could muster - so built as many of the smallest borg ships with phasers. This has never happened since - there must be some randomness added in Armada 1. Thanks again
